He has a detailed recollection of all the original parts, gear ratios, colour scheme etc, and at least one period photo. It was repainted and Colnagoed a few years ago by his son. I will get my hands on it in about 3 weeks when in Melbourne.

The ebay listing is here:

Haha I thought of you when I saw this, it's a fine match for your Gillot. I've wanted a Hobbs for a while now but it'll have to wait a while longer until I find one in my size. I doubt I'll find one for such a good price though.

An attempt at suing someone for defamation as a result of negative ebay feedback & posts on a separate forum has failed - see Elliott v Tomkins (No. 3) [2014] NSWDC 68

One apparent problem was that there was nothing to identify that a real person Mr David Dean Elliot was the ebay seller "Achilles Archery & Outdoors"

Ironically the damage, if any, caused to Mr Elliot's reputation by way of the feedback & forum posts is likely to be much less than his identification in the legal proceedings he commenced.

I thought only Clive Palmer and Gina Rinehart had the money and the time to waste on their sensitive egos.

In Queensland, defamation is a Supreme Court action and the application fees are very high to act as a deterrent. Mind you, under the current regime anything can change overnight and they'll back date it for you....... in case you might be put out.

Kuwahara Road bike with a very sneaky front end impact...Easily missed! I've had a few eBay purchases with unnoticed damage like this, I'm very timid now.

Sent a message to kuwahara guy, basically explaining how obvious the damage was and asking whether he was just clueless or a scumbag... Would have been a nice bike once upon a time but selling it like that isn't cool.

The auction has been pulled now so I assume it was an honest mistake

Yep, he was OK about it. Had no idea it was actually damaged. Shame, nice bike otherwise.

I just came across this mob on ebay and wondered if anyone has bought stickers off them. They look pretty reasonably priced.

What specifically gives it away in the photos? I'm not sure what to look for exactly but in the second photo of the head tube it looks like the top tube is bent up near the joining lug.

I noticed the cracked off paint in the topside of the downtube just above the shifters - I think thats a common spot for the frame to bend in a front end collision.

That's how I picked it - the crease in the top tube is quite obvious.

Top tube AND down tube visibly creased and with paint cracked just behind the lugs.

Imagine how and where the tubes would bend if you applied enough force to the end of the fork... that's where and how they're gone :-P

tim
who rode a tandem with creases like that for many years before noticing

Never heard of a Keith Davies but given the internal brake cable routing it can't be bad.
Nor a Neil Orrell which looks alright as well and ends soon.
Claud MTB
Doth mine eyes deceive me or is that a wavy top tube?
Repairable? Nice frame if so.

Hard to pick the crack in the seat tube - my eyes must be failing me.

Saw it when first listed - Looks to be a 58cm frame and a bad rattle can fade job.

For $80 if I was close I'd grab it. Looks like Everest webbed or batwing lugs. Bargain.

Yep, looks a steal to me. The trimmings don't look half bad either.

Assuming it's this Keith Davis; in which case drive north... (of Tassie, that is, not Canberra). ....edit: Oops, Davies.

Well, no, it's not a pushbike, otherwise I'd be pushing it...

Many older bikes have pretty strong forks too, I noticed the paint cracks on the top of both the top tube and down tube (indicating a front ender, where the wheel is effectively forced under the frame) but the forks on that kuwa didn't seem obviously bent to me. Forks survive impact as the frames bends. Sad.

If my son didn't already have another Speedwell and an Austral in his garage that he picked up to send down to me in Sydney I'd get him to grab it for me.

I think you need two Speedwells. I'll take care of the Austral for you
