i'm looking for years 97,98,

have got 92 96 99 & 2000
need to complete the 90's range

Hmm...I have cats 98, 99 and 2002. I would love to get copies or scans from 86 to 91 and 92? I got mine from Bikecorp themselves. I asked if they had any earlier ones and the years I have where all they had left. They recently did a clean up and many were thrown

During the holidays I'll get into gear and start scanning. Hosting the images at Photobucket is ok? I'll start with the 98 and work up.

If I ever need to contact any company, I always prefer to go in personally; seems to get results most of the time!

Finally got into the retro shogun crowd on the weekend, I have a shogun trailbreaker 2 as a commuter which got me into Shoguns when I started riding to work.

Nice retro rides don't seem to come up very often in Ballarat, so I was pretty happy to see a Shogun Sport come up on Ebay which ended at 7pm on christmas day. I managed to pick it up for $5 and was extremely surprised to see the condition it was in.







The front hub was way too tight and I needed to get the multi grips out to release the front quick release, so after correcting that, regreasing the front hub, giving it a quick wash and giving the chain some love it was time to give it a test ride to the local pub to meet some mates for dinner.



Not sure whats going to happen to it, not much at this moment. Still has decent white bar tape on it and the running gear is in good nick so it'll just serve as a run around in its retro form I think.

haha..I was going to bid on that but the drive put me off.. Drive for about 2 hours for a $5 bike? nahhh Good to see it went to you.. But if you ever tire of it, let me know!

Haha, no worries Dimitri, I'll keep you in mind. If you ever see anything up this way, let us know and I'll happily pick it up, always easy enough to sling it in the back of one of the boys cars or in the U12 on the way to a Z meet. If I was going to drive 2 hours to pick up a $5 bike, the missus would probably look like this so I can understand where you're coming from

I think it has the wrong sized seat post in it, the clamp can't get any tighter around it. I'll have to measure it up and look a bit closer one day.

Oi you, there's nothing wrong with 2+2's, the fat ones need lovin too! Especially ones with random patches of different paint combinations all over it, seriously, that thing is either some kind of frankenstein, made from 4 different cars, or someone really did goofy stuff to it back in the day

One day the right 2 seater will pop up Till then, I'll just remove the rear seats from mine hahahaha.

Hi there, first post so go easy! I snagged this Shogun Trailbreaker 3 yesterday for $30, I need something to chase the kids on, it cost less than a tyre on my roadbike so I'm stoked.

I need to replace the BB, but I have not idea what year the bike is and what spec/type of BB to use. I think its a yr 2000 plus model, not a classic like some of the others here. It's has the oval bottom tube and suspension, looks as if the crankset is CPI, 24 speed, rear is shimano acera. I have attached pics of the bike, crank and serial number here. Can anyone shed some light please? Cheers

it's around 2002/3 model

square taper BB , looks like a cup and cone
for me, they are fully restorable, polish the cups, new balls and away you go
any shimano LP or UN series will replace
just check the spindle length
pull it out and post a pic, to be sure

i'm going to start a forum on rebuilding bottom brackets

Hi, newby here!

I recently move to my first bike friendly community and got into 80's steel mountain bikes. I like the lugged tubes and that they made these bikes to last. I recently got a Shogun Easy Street II, its a nice looking and smooth running bike. I have not found much about Shoguns, except that they were made in Japan supposedly for the USA market. Also that these were mostly road bikes, then I found your forum. The bike serial starts M5L6, so, I'm guessing its a frame build in December of 1985 (1986 model?). Component dates range from June to October 1985, so I believe are original, these are:
Shimano Deer Head Black anodized group
Araya 7XN Black anodized
Suzue Black hubs
Nitto riser bar with SR MTS-120 stem
Sugino SP KC seatpost
and Sugino No. 6 Cranks with Super Maxy arms, these I believe are not original and hence the question. Does anyone has information on this bike, was it a mountain bike? I will like to get original equipment on it if possible.

The bike seems similar to Miyatas Trail and Ridge Runners as well as the Stumpjumpers, perhaps done in the same factory in Japan. I will appreciate any information anyone may have on this bike, I will specially enjoy seeing a catalog [wishful thinking ]

That's really really special. Probably the best 'proper' (meaning pre 90s for me) Vintage MTB on this forum so far. The condition is so so good, don't change a thing!

Can't comment much on your questions, except to say that Kuwahara built a lot of the early MTB frames. That one has the Shogun 'S' stamped onto the top of the seat stay, so I'd say it was probably(?) built in house by Shogun. That 1st Gen 'Stag Head' Deore XT is really cool stuff. Like!

As a side note, old mountain bikes are super rare in this condition. I've only had first hand experience with four mid to late 80s mountain bikes, and two of them were un saveable (one with a seized seat post/bent everything, the other one with a bent head tube! How do you bend a head tube! I can't even…)
The other two were in ratty non original condition.
