Malvern Star restoration

Postby brasstinman » Sun Feb 28, 2010 9:25 pm

Picked up an old Malvern Star 2 star embossed head tube off ebay a few months back at a bargain.
Started stripping it down and came across a problem with the oil filler on the bottom bracket.
Looks like the lip that holds the rubber cap has broken off. Is there nut at the base of the oil hole?

After some advise on how best to get this repaired so I can get the frame off to the powder coaters.

Anyone know which decade the this might be from? The people that saw the bike at the Deus swap met here in Sydney said it might be a 40's or 50's frame.
Forks have embossed star on each side of the squared fork at the top.

The hole in the frame is threaded. A bit of WD40 and a small spanner on the flat sides should remove it.
You need to find a complete replacement...... not a rubber cap..... it has a flat steel lid.

if you are not too fussed.

Grind it, fill it and paint it over. No mess, no fuss...

Quotes from the VintageCycleClub of Victoria email list........

"Try St. Kilda cycles. They have them at about $3 each. "
"I bought two recently and there were dozens left. It took me two attempts as I was referred to there by another vintage bike tragic."

Hope this helps. You might be able to find some in Sydney.

I am rather inclined to believe that you've got yourself a roadster frame, looking at the style of the seat-stays.
