Raleigh Royal build

This is an early 80's Raleigh Royal. A nice enough frame with 531 main tubes and forks. The frame was in lovely condition and I have fitted it out with Campag Super Record throughout (no Titanium though), and it has a nice set of Araya 27" rims (thanks Spirito!) with some fat Gatorskins. The bike is rather heavy, and I guess this is a combination of the frame, rims and tyres. I rather like the practicality of this bike and it is likely to actually get some use riding with the family. It will probably also get some guards and a seat bag (if anyone has soemthing classy, let me know)

If you are looking for a leather bag, the small behind the saddle ones, there is a lady out at Goulburn who makes them. Much cheaper than a brooks and practically as nice.

Looks great and I bet it will make a very practical second bike for sunny days and short trips. Not sure what you consider "heavy" though as I have a couple of 1020 tubed Raleigh's that would qualify as heavy at 12KG but are still fine to ride and surely this must be at least a kilo lighter or more than that. The absolute best Raleigh reyniolds 531 tubed competition bikes of the day still weighed at least 9.5kg.
