I was reading through an old cycling magazine and found the following advert. I thought it might be a good reminder to make sure you pack a block of chocolate before heading out on your bike.

I think the quantity of almonds may be a little less thesedays but at least you have the raisins to quench your thirst.

And a nice bowl of bovril after the ride! gotta love the straight-forward no nonsense copy writing & images, rare even in the 30s.

Neat. Vintage ads of anything are fun to look at. I've got a book on Victorian ads and there's a few cycling ones, here's one of the more bizarre c. 1880, still trying to figure out how it supposed to climb them there stairs though:

Ha, didn't even think about that, maybe you just turn the seat around for downhill.

Actually I think chocolate & candies are pretty good as quick energy sources, not nutritious or "healthy", but the cals are there Don't really like the more milky chocs though, too sweet. 85% Lindt is the way to go
