My retro is a bike again!

Postby cludence » Wed Sep 26, 2007 11:57 am

Sometime ago I posted a pic of an Alan frame which I had picked up from a roadside cleanup. (Too lazy to find the link to previous post.) I now have it cleaned and back together. It is a stunning bike. I have yet to take it for a ride as it is part of a display at the moment but as soon as it is home again I am heading out on it. I can pretend to be a bike snob with this one since it is covered in Campag components. -Something my other bikes do not have.

Karen, I hope I'm the first to congratulate you on the 're-birthing' of YOUR ALAN.

It looks great!!! I bet you love its ride qualities.

The annodised blue colour looks spectacular but I bet you are in two minds as to whether to put decals on it or not (available on ebay).

As for being a bike snob - I could never think of you as a snob of any kind - you're too helpful and interested in all things 'biking' (but secretly, it is nice to have an Italian thoroughbred).

Nice bike Karen

What wheels did you manage to score?

The girlie bike says that 'Alan' is gorgeous!
I rode with a carbon tubed Alan on the weekend - it was pretty cute too, but I think that the blue looks better.

Beautiful work Karen, she's come up a treat.

Hi Mike,

The wheels are on loan from Jim (camag hubs, singles) Time did not permit me chasing up hubs and rims in time for the display. After next week I will sort out a pair of my own then take it for a spin.

It is a stunning colour and makes it very striking. How anyone could have thrown it out is beyond me but also lucky for me that they did!

Karen.

I saw this bike at the Camden display last Sunday & it has truly come up well.
It is all Campag Record & Super record equiped.
A close look at the pictures will show that the pedals have been changed to the correct Campag items too.
Full marks for the effort in polishing as I know first hand just how much effort it must have been.

That's a nice, well posed picture too, must have been somene with an artistic eye for bicycles. ;-)
Carbine & SJH cycles, & Quicksilver BMX
Now that's AUSTRALIAN to the core.

Hi Karen,

I can't remember if I have shown you my ALAN - it's very similar to yours except it's black annodised. It's got Campy super record stuff as well.

I think the black just doesn't compare with the blue.

I am still waiting to hear what you think of your ALAN's ride qualities.

Here's mine:
