Happy with the colour it is antique cherry. I was going to detail the lug's (chrome or white) but it was a bit overstated and more $$$.
As to being different I don't know I suppose it will be. I was looking to go full restore but I don't know enough about nikes my riding is limited to mountain biking which I took up to help the fitness kick.
The purpose of this is to have a bike for next years round tha bay in a day and to get into road biking a bit more.
It probably does not classify as a retro now as it will be running pretty much new groupset but being a begineer I discussed it with Kevin at Paconi and this is what we came up with, he was of the opinion that finding bits of that era would be difficult and dangerous if you did not know exactly what you neede
It is essentially a modern bike apart for the cable reticulation around the bottom braket which I prefer anyway. I have never understood why they go under the bottom bracket now??
Outside of that at least the frame has had a rebirth.

It should handle around the bay in a day with ease. I wound guess that the frame geometry and rear chain stay length will make for a comfortable ride - just what you need for such a ride.
The routing for the gear cables over the bottom bracket was 'everyday' in the 70's but is rare today. The rear dropouts are long and horizontal to the ground - again rare today. The long pointed lugs again are not seen often but look elegant. There will probably be a decent space between the rear wheel and seat tube typical of the 70's. I would say that not many of today's cyclists would have seen these features even on the occasional steel frame.
It was a well made frame and will have a new life.

Thanks Guys,
I am proud of it and love the colour it worked out better than I could have hoped to have something a little different appeals to my sense of humor. Kevin (Paconi) talked it up as well he believes it was built by a very respect frame builder (name escapes me) but this should add some street cred
The lugs are hadin which supposably are good anyway its off to the BS today to have the headset pressed in and to get some of the miscellaneous bits.
I hope to have it on the road around the new year as still abit of money to spend
Here is a couple of pics (previously posted) of the original condition frame for before and after comparision. I will post pics as major milestones are reached

Micheal,
I would have liked to go the way you did with the Eagle, (looking forawrd to seeing the powdercoat finish Matt or Gloss?) but I am new to this so I went modern groupset although i will try to be original to the rest of it, ie)stem, bars, seatpost etc. A token effort at restoring but it should still appear at a distance to reflect its heritage.
Paconi did a good job and the paint job in the it is alot better in the daylight. He is a little slow and some of his custom jobs are great but I would recommend him for this sort of work.
Yes another pic
To basically get that frame in the condition it is I have spent :
$200 on frame
$324 on referbishment
$20 Campag seatpost bolt
$20 on down tube adjusters
So for $560 I am pretty happy, I am aiming for a budjet of about $1500 so it will be close but then it should be a good thing.
I doubt off the shelf you could get something similar in steel with Full Ultergra gear for that price.
Well I hope not anyway

Custom frames cost the other side of a grand.crog wrote:So for $560 I am pretty happy, I
Good second hand frames cost around that.
You've essentially got a new frame ... and it's personalised.
You have me thinking about my directions
Richard
I had a good bike ... so I fixed it

g'day crog,
Looking good! Like a lot of others here I'll be following the development with interest.
As to costs, think of the sheer pleasure you're getting from doing this. Can't factor that in monetary terms.
I suspect it's not only Richard you've got thinking either. hmmmm....

I know the two big ticket items I need to source are wheels and shifters. As I am still of the order of 110kg it will be some 36 home and alloy coloured. You realise now that the wheels are going to either seal or sink the deal ....
I am currently considering a set of velocity Deep V's stiched to 36 hole Ultegra hubs, these a Selle San Marco Regal saddle and set of Cinelli bars in white should clinch the deal.
Rules are either Alloy or white no black or carbon even they tyres are silver GP4000's
I have a couple of months to wait so I will shop around it may change

Ahhhh, the link to the Miche site brought back some memories.
I was looking to build some wheels for one of my rides back in the early 80's but was a bit short on cash. The LBS showed me a pair of Miche hubs that they had. 120mm spacing meant that they were becoming obsolesent, but it was right for my frame.
They looked really nice with that trendy brushed alloy finish but were an obscure brand name that I had not heard of before, but hey, they were Italian, ................ & Ferrari is Italian, ... so I bought them for $36 & spoked them into a pair of Weinman Buckleproof concave rims that I had.
After dismantling the hubs & servicing them with 'Campagnolo' grease [i'm a wannabe elitist] I installed the wheels & did the final cone adjustment on the bike. They were perfect.
Well it turns out that they were probably the best value hubs on the market.. They rolled smooth & true for many miles, they looked sharp &, being little known, they were 'exclusive' The hubs were so smooth & friction free that I used a little phrase as I rolled past my mates on downhill runs, decrying their high drag components.
"Resistance is useless" I would call out & credited all of the downhill rolling to the hubs.
Mind you, my high pressure tyres were overinflated to 110 psi while most of them gave up pumping at anything over 75psi, but we won't mention that.
Eventually I got some new Campag Record hubs & swaped them into the rims, & put the Miche hubs into the original box. I finally gave them to a local young bloke & built them into wheels for him.
He joined the local bike club & rode the dickens out of them. 25 years later & they are still on his old racer [now a semi touring bike] & whenever he sees me, he still reminds me that they were, & are, great wheels & hubs, & the best value wheels he ever owned. [all parts & labour were donated, so 'best value' would be an understatement]
If Miche's other products are as good, then're on a 100% winner.
