Thanks, I had checked almost everywhere for a serial no. but could not find one, after reading your reply this morning I eagerly checked the rear drop outs, but still nothing. So I checked the bottom of the frame again below the bracket and gave it a bit of a clean and finally found "D72", I know from looking at the bike it looks a lot older then 1972 so I doubt this is a date or is it? Also on the frame, which is barely legible is the word "FERN", doing a search on the internet I came up with nothing refering to these details.
I had a bit more luck with the rear free hub, it clearly reads Bayliss Wiley & Co Made in England. This could be quite old and there are plenty of references on th net, it appears to be in good condition, spinning freely and with a nice ratchet sound.
Im tempted to take a wire brush to the frame but I dont want to remove what is left of the decals.
Oh, and there is only a one star decal on the headstem, old style with the wings, unlike other older Malvern stars which have raised stars????
