They also have the option of a flat rack for the front.
I only recently bought my front pannier rack and Ortlieb panniers.
To be honest the front flat rack is more useful and better for my camera box and tripod but those will
now go on my carry freedom y-frame trailer

I picked up this frame yesterday. It's a 57 TT x 58.5 ST and one of the lightest frames I've ever picked up. I'd guess 1600g frame weight. The fork crown has Mercier and a crown stamped into the shoulder, and the seat stays have an M or a crown. Bottom bracket is french thread, seat tube 26.6mm. It has nice lugs and forged (simplex?) dropouts with rear adjusters. No braze on's for shifters but cable stops and a hanger - early 80's? There's a bit of damage - one cable stay on the TT missing and the front drop outs need aligning, but I can fix those. If only it was my size!

Not much info on the now-defunct Mercier brand, but it appears they made some high-quality frames (200, 300 series) with Reynolds tubing, the top end frame (300 series) using Reynolds 531. I'm guessing this is one of the higher quality frames, the finishing is very nice and the weight low.

Anyone want it? I'm happy to give it to someone who would like to build it up.

Hi Stuey,
yes it utilises an internal hub - 3 speed.
It has a single chainring on the cranks and a seven speed cassette.
21 speed in all for the Landrover.
The newer model APB came with 24 and the latest incarnation (TSR27) has 27 :D
Thanks; very interesting machine, for sure. (I'm a Moulton fan having owned a few Minis including a real Cooper S as opposed to a German one).

Hard rubbish time on our street. I walked down the street late last night to grab a bike box off a verge - someone had put three out a couple of days ago. Top one was too big, I just need to send a frame off. Grabbed the middle one but it had something in it. Tipped it up and a couple of twigs fell out followed by a Giant TCR Advanced frame and a pair of busted forks. Frame looks pretty good, a scrape through the paint on the LHS dropout. Have no idea what to do with it.

What did I get?

Image

Tange MTB frame, can't see the model name.

I'm concerned by the rust, particularly in the chain stays. If the rust was treated and the frame powder coated, would you ride it?

Image

My answer's probably no, but the vintage LX parts are still cool...

Had two great finds today, the ladies bike was picked up from the local tip shop for $25 and will be given to a friend. The other bike was found on a scrap heap at another location and was bound for a scrap metal yard. I had to save it, really old and has some interesting parts on it, especially the rear brake. It's an early malvern star but I have no idea of model??? I had to share pics of this because it looks pretty rare.

Hi creolenights, good on you for saving two oldies! Close-up pictures of the MS will tell us all more, especially the headstem. And how many stars are there? Look for a serial number either at the top of the seat-tube or on the rear drop-outs.

Could be a Marin Muirwoods, i have one and the frame is identical, mine had 200GS though. The rust around the chain stays looks pretty crook, but there was a Southern Cross road bike that 'rebilda' restored that looked at least as bad. I would get the parts off (if possible) and then sand/wire brush/gently sandblast and just see what is under the rust and paint.

Thanks Ldr; that was my plan. It might be a while before I get to it though...

At least wire brush it and put some rust converter on it, before you shelve it - to ensure it doesn't get worse.

Thanks, I had checked almost everywhere for a serial no. but could not find one, after reading your reply this morning I eagerly checked the rear drop outs, but still nothing. So I checked the bottom of the frame again below the bracket and gave it a bit of a clean and finally found "D72", I know from looking at the bike it looks a lot older then 1972 so I doubt this is a date or is it? Also on the frame, which is barely legible is the word "FERN", doing a search on the internet I came up with nothing refering to these details.

I had a bit more luck with the rear free hub, it clearly reads Bayliss Wiley & Co Made in England. This could be quite old and there are plenty of references on th net, it appears to be in good condition, spinning freely and with a nice ratchet sound.

Im tempted to take a wire brush to the frame but I dont want to remove what is left of the decals.

Oh, and there is only a one star decal on the headstem, old style with the wings, unlike other older Malvern stars which have raised stars????

Try oxalic acid (diggers wood bleach) it will kill the rust but not the paint and decals

Munga, you've made a pretty ordinary repco look great....infact the the colour tones you have used could not make it look any better.

Just found at the local tip well what could only be disrcribed as an almost complete Giant MTB! Now when I say almost complete I mean everything bar the Frame.

It was a box of what look like brand new parts that look like the only time they were on the bike was when it was in the shop. The box consisted of Front shocks I think adjustible, 26 inch wheels with what look like shimano hubs (the tyres look like they never been on the ground), Shimano group set including chain, shimano brakes, bearing and even the handle bars.

I got it for $10!

I will take some photos of it and post on here soon.

It all looks like low end gear as the forks say not for down hill on them.

let me know what you think?
