I have an odd aluminium Europa road frame at the moment with wishbone rear seat stays and its tig welded, though they've sort of welded a bead onto the head/top/down tube junction like a pointed lug.

Quite odd! But looks like a decent quality tube set, takes a 26.8mm seat post (maybe a 27.0) and a 1" stem. English BB.

I have no fork for it but I imagine it ran something steel.

Could be a Technicomps as some of the early ones of them were labelled Europa I recall.

It is almost certainly a Technicomps frame. And yes, they used generic steel forks.

Maybe one of you Europa fans in NSW might like to go save this before it ends up under the angle grinder of some hipster?? The price is right... :D

Hello Everyone,

I know this is quite an old thread, but the little information I have found on my latest restoration project has come from this thread so I thought I would contribute and share my appreciation of my Elan bike.

This is a tange 900 tubing frame, Suntour Arx groupset. I've had to replace the wheels as they were too far gone to restore. Custom spray paint job and Brooks Swift Titanium saddle.

It's a lovely ride, and it's been great on shorter 150km/200Km brevets. I've yet to take it on a longer ride but I'm sure it will be just as comfortable.

Anyway, I hope you like it and i for one appreciate this old Elan. Now I been able to remove the original decals, I just haven't gotten around to having a professional scan them in and reprint them for me.

My first bicycle that was all mine (instead of sharing with 7 siblings...) - a Europa purchased from Spokesman Cycles in O'Connor in 1978. Refurbished in 2014 which ignited a steel bike refurbishment passion I still have (obsession)... I think it scrubbed up ok. It's a bit on heavy side - a little over 12kg but rides very smoothly. Has suicide levers but hey it brakes beautifully with modern brake pads - no longer in any way dangerous and therefore very comfortable for cruising to cafes etc. Mostly original Suntour kit including stem shifters (which I like :)) and Diacompe centre pull brakes. Freshly laced rims (not orig Ambrosios but HanTrade from Peter T) using orig Shimano high flange hubs and DT Swiss Comp spokes (my first wheel building experience).

btw new decals courtesy of John Abeni in Kensington, and lovely metallic powder coat (orig colour) courtesy of Luke in Qbn, crank set and wider handlebars - thanks Jon.

With help from this forum, I may have a identified my recently purchased bike as a Europa. I am keen to metaphorically peel back the manly pink paint and find out a bit more about it.

It has a real mixture of components - Modolo brakes, Ofmega crank, Cinelli stem and bars and Rigida rims. The stays and fork are chromed.

The serial on the seat tube is EC 0718 and it weighs in at around 10.3kgs. The original paint underneath could be dark green - not sure yet.

Anyone got any ideas of the year, tubing, model etc.?
