Thanks Koshari!
Will give it a go, as long as I'm not making a rookie error...

just make sure you keep the bearing cup relatively straight as you walk it off the frame, if it continues to twist you need to line it up again.

Hi all,
Have just bought a Repco traveller for the price of $4.50 as that is all I had on me when I popped into a garage sale. I am looking at restoring it. As this will be my first attempt I am after tips and advice on how this should be done, I might need to be spoon fed. :D

Looks a good original bike. I would just clean and service it, check tyres etc. Depend how far you want to go? Paint and decals look really good. I would just clean up the chrome. Use the search function on this site for methods. A traveller is at the lower end of the Repco model spectrum however they are a really good solid bike, I wouldn't go spending a lot on it. The one you have is a really good starting point as it looks well kept and very original even down to the bar grips and bell. I have a couple and they are my favourite beach cruiser bikes.

Thanks for your input, I was thinking about stripping it back and replacing most of the parts. As this was such a cheap buy, and first project. I did some googling and saw some great looking restorations.

Might add wife is not keen on me spending to much money. I think that I maybe having a midlife crisis, as I have bought a seventies stereo system as well.

If you want to restore a bike as in the link you attached, as you will spend quite a bit on the components, maybe have a look for a better quality frame. Just a thought. See what others say.

Have a look here on a handy Repco info site, maybe around 87/88 and you can see the different quality of bikes to give you an idea.

Hello all,

I wonder if I might pick your collective brains - i have been given an old repco bike that was brought many years ago from Sid Patterson cycles in Elsternwick Victoria. i cant seem to upload photos! but try this link to my facebook album.
web.facebook.com/deniecegglewis/media_set?set=a.10208195061088867.1073741833.1072053866&type=3

I cant seem to find any other information such as what type and year it is so i wonder if i can get some help, also id like to fix it up does anyone know what colour the original would be?

thank you

Deniece

Sorry Deniece, I'm not seeing any bike photos there. You might have to try uploading them to another image host.

There are loads of different ways, but google drive is a pretty easy option if you have any google accounts. If so just upload to google drive and post a shareable link.

Something like this.

Yeah that link works. :)

You'd have to post a few more pics and show a bit more detail of the components etc, but the 1020 frame makes it one of their lower end bikes. It might be something like the "Repco Traveller", but to be honest I'm not really sure what models they made with "ladies" frames.

Yes i think traveller sounds like you are right. I was hoping it would be something more at the higher end of the range being it was purchased at the sid petterson shop. Although he was sponcered by malvern star who was also owned by pacific dunlop i think.

It could be pearl yellow, probably a Traveller as stated.
The only picture you posted shows the bike looking very rusty. Unless it had sentimental value, plenty of good ladies repco's pop up on Ebay and Gumtree all the time. Sometimes better to pay a bit more for a good one, will save you a lot in the long run.

Youe bike could be from 86 to 91 + or - a few years.

Cheers Geoff

Hey Guys. Picked up this purple beast today. A Repco Superlite. Can anyone shed some light on its vintage? I'm thinking early 90's? It's got Exage 300 group with biopace cranks.

G'day Repcotilians, I can officially join after acquiring this old Olympic 14 :) . I've stripped her right down for a clean up and regrease. She was very greasy/ dirty with loose bearings in everything. Let the fun begin

looks like she just needs some new bar tape, a couple of caps on the crank and some lubrication and time.

Back in early 2014 I arranged here to sell my 63cm 1985 Repco Nishiki Tri-A to someone whose name I forget, maybe from Tassie. I wasn't able to complete the sale as I was going away for a couple of months, and forgot about it when I returned. Anyway, I need to thin the herd. There are a few pics earlier in this thread , and first bite is available to the original buyer if still interested. It's pretty original - some turkey put matt black paint on the yellow head tube which comes off with a fingernail, but the rest is original - 600 group set, gold anodized Araya wheels and a suede saddle with a couple of small tears. I think I was asking $200 and dropped it a little because I couldn't find the 600 pedals that I'd taken off to transport it by plane.

I know this is not in the for sale section, but it's something that both will only appeal to the people watching this thread, and I'd sort of want it to go bro one of you anyway.

By the way, anyone's been to Ceres in Brunswick and seen the fence around a kids play area made of half buried bike frames, and noticed the Eurosport Tri-A that forms a part of it? The people running the bike recycling shed there need a few lessons on what's valuable!

If anyone has a SMALL framed victory/euro sport tri a bike that's wanting to sell, shoot me a PM.
I'm looking for one to commute around Sydney.
Thanks Tam
