I have a pink/mauve cresta, not fully complete so hopefully the mods can put your image up. So going by your user name, do you plan for something higher end down the track?

Let's hope so maccayak, I did link them but apparently it takes a few posts before images are allowed ?

Mine is a lovely blue, not sure of the exact colour. It turns darker around the front Repco badge. How complete is yours?

Down the track I would love to find an Olympic 12, but with the two tone red / silver scheme, and update it as a daily ride. There's a 54 frame near me in Brisbane but I'm 6"1 so it might be too small as the Cresta is 56.

The pictures are showing now. Nice looking bike. :) Was that one of the Repco models that was made by Nishiki?

Also, I notice that it's got a triple crank set. Was the Cresta sold as a touring bike?

Is that the seat tube (centre of crank to top surface of the tube)?

Thanks uart, according to the serial number it would be a 1984 / 85 model, the number is AD01613. I believe it was sold as a touring bike, as it has a pannier rack, rack mounted light and numerous mounting points for pumps and such.

That measurement is for the top tube, the seat tube is only 52cm. Way too small id say.

That is a very nice bike, sorry I didn't know it was a Nishiki model (can see photo now), so my original comment looks stupid. My one is not a Nishiki like yours, maybe some tyres and you are set. That is a good buy you got, and they don't often pop up much. I saw an incomplete one go for around a hundred so good find.

Cheers Geoff

Thanks Geoff, not to worry, it's hard to tell off just the serial number. Even though I had no idea about them when I first saw the ad, but even the smallest amount of research proved just how lucky I was. Gumtree is an absolute gold mine

cant help you with the numbers , however if it is an actual olympic 14 frame its a keeper, they are giant supplied kit from repco and are cromo tubing. if it weighs in at under 2.5kg (frame and fork-56cm frame) it will be a good indication of its quality.

care to post some pics? colour? as the paintwork on this range is generally pretty distinctive.

the china part of the marking i would suspect refers to taiwan also going by the ROC (repuplic of china) mantle as afaik there were no giant frames built in mainland china in the late 80s.

In real estate terminology he has "overcapitalised". I have little doubt that the paint was $750 from PMB. Big operation with considerable overheads.

I liked the Tri A, maybe not quite the colour but the work that went into it. I googled the powder coater, he is a bike guy himself and is big in the resto scene. He does the stripping and coating, however he is in Brissy.

Might be listed for that but i doubt it will sell. There are heaps of restored old school bmx bikes listed for overs that never sell on ebay.

Oh I don't doubt it was an impeccable job and worthy of the fee, but it's still a Superlite. Call me a Repco snob if you will (bit of an oxymoron, like a cask wine connoisseur) but hey, if he enjoys his bike, who am I to tell him how to spend his money? Much like show cars and other restoration jobs the end value is never nearly as much as they money and time that went in to it.

firstly, hello JM and welcome to the thread.

Why do you need to replace them????
-are they damaged?
-Do you want to put a compact on it??( i did on my repco as its hilly here and i was labouring on some hills)
when you say they are threaded i assume you are referring to the bottom bracket as 99% of these vintage bikes came out with square taper cranks,- how much money do you want to spend???
as for pedals any 9/16 pedal will fit on the cranks, i have the standard clips that came with it and they ride fine, if you like you could put some clipless pedals on if you wanted to uy some cycling shoes.
Thanks for the welcome, and apologies on the late reply. I didnt explain myself, the threads in the holes that the pedals screw into are completely worn. So all i really need are new cranks. Assuming the threads on the pedals are okay.

So basically im after guidance on what to ask for/look for in a set of cranks for the bike?

Thanks in advance!

Hi !
New here.Working on ,among other projects, an old olympic 14.
Stripping down and cleaning etc, but cannot seem to get the headset cups out of the frame.
Are they not removable or am I just on struggle street with this problem. I ask as having seen a few images on this forum , other bikes seem to have headset cups still in the frames. Are they non-removable?
Images once project complete . :P

They are just pressed in. Brass of softer metal dolly from opposite end. Strike opposite sides alternatively.
