My mate's old Holstar roadie...

Postby McPete » Tue Nov 13, 2007 2:13 pm

Folks,
My good friend Matt, who got me into mountain biking, the other day astounded me by his fortune.

From the tip, for $5, he got himself a 12 speed, cromo-framed Holstar Road bike.

Complete 105 groupset, save for the chainrings, indexed downtube friction shifters, compact cassette and Biopace chainrings, a 52 and a 48 if memory serves me. 700C wheels, short reach brakes... About the only concern is the freewheel that sounds like it's eating itself.

It's far lighter than my Apollo, it feels far nimbler on the roll. I have to say, I'm impressed.

I'll try to grab some photos later today.

Right place, right time, SNAP!

Not only does he introduce you to life threatening activities he out does you on the scrounge. About time to review the 'mate' aspect of this relationship?

Richard
I had a good bike ... so I fixed it

I'm not worried. His chainrings are big, combined with the small cassette, leaving him with some seriously high gears and very very few properly low ones.

That and I've got him to spend $40 on bits for it :P
