Salvaged this from the gutter last night. I am guessing it is an Apollo 1 or 2. The serial number is - 84 12 30516. From what I have googled - 84 12 is the month and year of production. Does the 30516 indicate anything of significance?

Rear derailleur was dangling from the chain. Front wheel missing.
Have stripped it back to what you can see in the picture now.

Next step is to find a socket thin enough to get the nut out from the cranks.

Just a quick question as I am very curious as to the weird brackets and the bottom of the forks. What are they from/what is the idea for these?

Those brackets could be for mudguards perhaps.

You'll want a cotterless crank extractor tool to undo the crank nuts and to pull them off the bottom bracket axle. It's a pita otherwise.

Was picking up a wheel which I purchased off eBay, and I noticed that the seller also has a large gold Apollo V which he said will be posted on eBay for sale soon. It was shiny clean with what appeared to be a complete 600 groupset. I didn't ask the price.

got myself an Apollo Vitesse this week, its really good nick, so i have a foot in the repco appreciation thread and now one in the apollo appreciation thread

got a lot of bikes to source some mid school BMXs to build a bike for the granddaughter and it happened to be among them.

here it is waiting for some tires..

love the paintwork.
time and priority atm taken up by the BMXs , learning about gyro brakes and u brakes atm to sort the bmx out then will give the Vitesse a bit of attention and put a few Kms on it.

first ride on the new/old steed, very nice all though took a little bit to get used to the downtube shifters again, not all bad, reminded me of how easy the big rings shift with friction shifters, missed the compact crank on a couple of the hills though.

firstly i ride with seats a lot lower than level, but that seat has a lot of foam on the lower/skinny region which meant that i had to adjust it lower again than i normally would,

indeed, actually ordered some last night, interesting colour that, i suspect its right on the green/blue boundary, its sometimes called aqua and sometimes celeste, the tires colour was called baby blue! go figure? or maybe iam just colourblind.

well as much as i have tried level seats, 20mins into the ride the crown jewels go numb.

When I have longer reach it seems to squash things and it's quickly apparent something needs to change

For upright ergos my seat is probably level.

Seeing those tyres kind of makes me wish I kept the original colour. I still like my silver though. I'm still trying to decide whether to get new decals made up though.

if you do get some decals made up just use clear waterslides and paint some clear over them, aparantly apollo kept is pretty easy for us and just used good old arail font, the bold black font would look fine with your silver behind it,

My Vitesse has the exact same paint job and tyres :p lol. I converted mine to a single speed though as the wheels were stuffed. Such a good frame, heavy but very stiff and sporty. Given the deep dish alloy wheels I put on it it probably isn't any lighter than it was :p it's a fast bike though

Hi folks

I am so glad I stumbled upon this group, I recently purchased a 12-speed Apollo I which I want to restore for the Strada Bianchi Fondo in Tuscany in 2018.
The bike needs rust removal and a respray before being restored and I was wondering where I could obtain a decal set.
There is also an issue with the down tube shifters which have been replaced with plastic Shimano STi shifters - I need to replace these with metal units.
Where can I find the original build and component specs for this model? Google is becoming increasingly cluttered with vendors jockying for position on the top of page one and this is affecting searches in a bad way.
What do you know about this model and where it fits in the pecking order of Apollo bikes?
Any help will be appreciated.
