apollo nerds will say "of course it's better than a repco! it's an apollo!" but the reality is that both of them are toward the bottom of the scale. having said that, i'd rather ride an apollo II, purely because there's less of them, it sounds more exotic, and it also has better components.

Ok thanks for the reply, I think it has all the same gear on it as my traveller, they both have Shimano 6 speed cassetts, Shimano SIS or 515 index shifers on the stem and the like. I think I will lever it there if its not better then what I have.

does it/yours have alloy rims? alloy rims are much better than steel rims with regard to wet weather braking.

I put alloys on the Traveller as the steely were not good to say the least, but I must say I didn't notics what was on the Apollo.

This is easily the coolest retro Townie bike on this forum I've seen to date. Kinda jealous that I saw it but didn't have the cash, but totally love what you've done with it as a rebuild.

Here's a couple of Apollo's I've been working on recently, not real restorations, just getting them roadworthy and back on the streets for a few friends.

First is a 1981 Apollo III, similar to the one on the previous page with Shimano centrepull brakes.



Second is a 1986 Apollo Defiance, I hadn't heard of this one but seems ok, Tange Infinity sticker on it, Suntour and Sugino gear, dia compe brakes.

Oooooh that Red three is nice.
Pfffft repcos are not in the same league as the Apollos ! repco should have stuck to making oil filters for 1985 corollas.......wait for it .......

I've just found this thread and wonder if anyone out there may be able to help.
I've got hold of an old Apollo Himalaya MTB, and need to replace some bits (mainly drivetrain).
Is there anywhere I can find all the specs for this bike? Or can someone let me know which modern-day parts I can buy to replace the bottom bracket and crankset (that's for starters, anyway). The crankset is a Shimano FC-MC10, but I can't find that part no.anywhere.

From memory the Apollo Himalaya ran for quite a few years.

Picked up another Apollo and I'm fairly certain that Snowboarding wasn't an Apollo model, happy to be proved wrong. Serial numbers are all caked in grease.

It's probably a II though, the cranks are Sugino, derailleurs are Shimano and the front wheel is QR. It's going to have to be sandblasted and powdercoated the body is horrid!

APOLLO II – 12 Speed
Colour: Ice Blue or Black or Red or Peal White
Frame: Tange Hi Tensile Steel
Forks: Hi Tensile
Rims: 27” HP steel wheels with front QR Hub
Derailleurs: Shimano Z503 Series

That is higher up the tree than a II, probably a III from the picture.

What has just happened to apollo prices on ebay the last few weeks, theve gone balistic. Just saw an 1980 apollo 2 in average condition go for double what I expected.
Theres a mint red apollo 3 on there ATM asking $250 as a buy it now. Id put a link to it if I could work out how

There's also a nice yellow III in canberra for $75 on the bay

I thought I would share with you all my pride and joy its my 1995 Apollo Kosciusko.

I purchased this bike in 1995 for somewhere around $400-500.
Over the years I have replaced derailleurs and shifters, but its an awesome bike and I've never come across one on the net the same as mine. The paint colour scheme is just beautiful .

Nice bike. Though looks like you'll be wanting some new chainrings in the near future.

Sure have I am 6 foot 4 and when I got it I was under 6 foot methinks
Some of those pics look terrible as it was taken without giving it a nice detail and clean up!
New chainring would be not a bad idea, or maybe just clean it up. With that said it does actually have the cranks that were recalled by Shimano, but they have never given me any problems!
Possibly a new front derailleur and chainring but not at the moment got bills to pay etc...

i reckon people are realising just what a good quality bike these old apollos are. take the 1980 IV that i just sold to a gentleman from up the coast (who's eyes popped out of his head when he saw what he got for his $200), it has a quality chromoly kuwahara frame and headset with shimano forged dropouts and a full shimano 600 arabesque ensemble. the III was not too far behind the IV, it has a near identical frame with a lower spec shimano altus ensemble, it's honest working class quality but not european laaadeeedahhhh.

Well I guess I can join the club now... I was on the gold coast last weekend and I popped into the giant store over the road from harbor town... Saw a nice Concorde and thought as a kid I always wanted a Concorde.... One popped up here and then evilbay.... Won the auction for 23 including postage to the Berra... Can't wait to get it home... This one might get a full Tiagra upgrade from the Dale and I'll upgrade the Dale to 105 spec...

One I fixed up for my niece to ride an Apollo Geneva( she just needs to grow a little so she can touch the pedals )

Paint touch ups where needed, new chain, new mudguards, polished, serviced, new white walls and streamers and spoke beads added
