I was given a box of goodies too:
spokes, thornproof tyres, freewheel casette tool, bb tools, levers, original seat, extra seat post etc etc, all you can get now for cheap but pretty retro if you ask me....
I just took off the cotton bar tape because it was faded to a greeny brown... might replace the hoods and put some foam bar tape.

That's nice for sure and appears very well looked after for a 34 year old. What type of cranks/chainring are they?

They look like early Shimano 600 3 arm.

I finally have some time to post a couple of pictures of my Apollo Eclipse- I finished the rebuild a couple of months ago and its now one of my commuters. Its a very smooth ride and a pleasure to ride- enjoy the pics, Don

Anyone have a photo of the Apollo mk3.5? Apollo mk3 and above were one of the best bikes you could ever buy. Shimano 600 running gear,great bikes.

My Apollo IV has been sitting in the garage not getting much attention as I seem to have caught a major case of the lazies and I've also needed to replace a tyre and the 27 x 1" are not easy to find. The new years resolution involves regular bike commuting so I'm getting my transport organised. Last week I rode the Shogun Katana on one day but the geometry is just slightly wrong - I need to reach forward a little bit too far on it and it's not pleasant to ride. Fortunately my son likes riding this to school so it's all his.

On Thursday I bit the bullet and bought some tyres for the Apollo - couldn't find anything 27 x 1" in the country so I picked up a pair of Serfas 27 x 1.25" from an LBS and probably paid way too much, but the ride to work on Friday was AWESOME!!! I'm seriously paying the price for being so out of shape and the massive headwind on the ride home didn't help but the bike was just so damn nice to ride! The geometry is perfect, the bike is so light and nimble and maneuverable - I absolutely love it! The next couple of weeks are going to be rough until I get a decent level of fitness back but I am sure going to enjoy it on the Apollo!

It's been a while since the Apollo thread was on the front page, so thought i'd give it a bump. Finished a mini resto of my 1981 Apollo III, left the frame as is but swapped out all the gear for the full 600 Arabesque set. New seat and bartape, and put on some MKS Sylvan road pedals I picked up somewhere.

Thanks guys, funnily enough I found a Laprade today hidden under a cheap cushiony Specialised seat that was on an old bike I picked up for my next project. Looks like it should fit the Apollo.

Ranga Tang, what year is your Apollo V? This thread gets a bit excited whenever one shows up.

hey guys and girls, im looking into getting fit and since i loved old bike i spoke to my bike dealer and he had 2 to chose from, a raleigh and an apollo II, initially i was going to go the raleigh but it didnt have mud guards so it would have cost an extra $50-70 for a set of guards on top of restoration costs. so i googled the bike and it brought me to here, i had viewed it previously but until now i didnt realize how great they look done. alot of fine examples in here.

this is the bike i hopefully pick up in a few days which needs some TLC but a coat of paint and some elbow grease should have it going good.



plans are new handle bars (ebay just lists them as road bike bars) new chain, brake cables, levers and pads, tyres, tubes and trip computers and water bottle pump etc

any advice on where to get new decals from would be great too

cyclomondo didnt have the stickers but did send me to a forum which someone was getting them made up.

impressions of the bike, wow you must all be REALLY tall haha, im trying to find some cheap shimano Z503 gear units to replace mine as they have seen better days, a new chain coming along with some tyres then it should be ride-able, but obviously plenty to restore.

Hey huggie, are you in Brisbane? The gentleman who bought my apollo 3 off me didn't want the NOS Sakae Road Champion bars with near new Dia-compe non-aero levers and the original SR stem if you are interested in taking them off my hands for $35, I'll even throw in the nutted single pivot brake calipers that I used on my 3. I'm just north of Brissie, but it's not worth posting them because it'd cost almost as much as the bars/levers are worth.
