Tassie being Tassie, I met the former owner of this bike today. I can now confirm it was originally a Hillman Alpine purchased in Melbourne in 1985. The owner still has another which looks exactly like the before picture. I might see if I can locate some Hillman decals for my re-furbished bike.

Serial number on the head tube lug which is normal for Panasonic in the 1980s.

Found the frame on a council clean up.
Seemed reasonable quality with nice lugs, had it powder coated added 2nd hand forks and other bits and pieces.
Rides very nice

Well done indeed.
Shouldn’t criticise your choice of colour as I have somehow ended up with a few blue bikes myself.
But looks too much like “NSW State of Origin Blue” for my tastes. Would prefer if you had of resurrected it’s original “maroon” colour
