Malvern Star 'Renegade' frame

Hi forum people (my first post),
I've blown the dust off my old mountain bike its a Malvern Star 'Renegade' and hasn't been ridden in years, i think it was from around 1987-88. I'm about to pull it apart and convert it to a SS then use it for mainly urban riding but also a little trecking. My question is about the frame, is it worth spending time on an older frame? should I look at taking it to a shop and getting it checked? I'm just not sure about how durable these older bikes are and don't want to be in a position where it falls apart while riding :-(

If it helps, the frame 'looks' solid. Should I look at somehow having the welds reinforced etc?

Any help/advice is appreciated.

Reno.
