80's Colnago project

Sorry you had to take an RDO to unpack it mate but I wanted it to get there safe and sound

I was planning to send it to star enamelers as soon as I finished my degree for a full restoration and to get the stays re-chromed (they were painted over, the bubbling was because of the chrome underneath, it's tricky getting paint to etch onto chrome) so I don't think it's foolish. It's a really nice frame, if only it was my size I would've kept it!

I can't wait to see what you come up with ..

Can I put a vote in for that metallic light blue the sprints and super sprints also came in? That's what I was going to go for!

I'm very excited about the frame. Blue looks good but I'm sure red is faster.
Patience is required since the chroming will take 4-8 weeks and Star Enamellers have a considerable lead time too
Any time can be used working out exactly what I'm going to do with the bike.

Your Bozevski build really inspired me and made me want to put Athena 11 speed on that bike.. and the alloy athena/veloce looks very nice against the classic campy and cinelli bits.. hint hint ..

I'm itching to start my next build now!

I'll be putting alloy Athena on the frame no question. I'm extremely happy with the gruppo on the Bosevski.
The biggest/hardest decision is the colour. I've been scouring the web and there are lots of options for late 80's Colnago's.

The blue with chrome stays/fork and polished alloy and the crisp black and white Colnago decals with the coloured bands in the logo's on the head tube etc.. that's just got to look good, no question. Of course then I'll want the bike back..and it still won't fit

My frame landed in Australia this week from eBay USA - mid 80's Colnago International, size 60 in Pearl White - Extremely pre-loved but straight and the chrome just needs some TLC.

Will refinish it so have been playing the "which colour?" game as well. Black with gumwalls is winning at the moment.

The frame safely arrived at the electroplaters so I'm trying to find a groovy paint scheme for the bike.
This one is very close to how it had been repainted:

This the Zabel blue but it's a Master and this scheme might not be appropriate for a Super Sprint if I'm worrying about being correct:

I reckon the red, simple and tasteful! Or painted the same but in Zabel blue originally for the Super Sprint it was done in the same scheme/decals.

First one, the red with the yellow flash on the downtube does it for me Peter, don't ask me why, just a gut thing. Any of those liveries look sweet.
