Hooray the parts are here!! Shiny new Shimano 8spd 11-32 cassette and Acera rear mech and very smooth looking Microshift sti levers. Should be able to get some pics up by the end of the week. I'll talk to steve tomorrow and see when he's able to do the final painting.

Well i'm very embarassed to see how long it has been since i last posted about this build, Steve the panel beater has been snowed under for quite some time and has been unable to get the colour on the frame but it's primed so not rusting, and he's doing it for free so there's no way i'm complaining or going to nag him. As my gf has hurt her back recently and probably won't do the B2GC now, this bike isn't needed in a hurry anyway. It will still happen though, probably another month or two away.

Was looking for another thread and bumped into this one, sorry to say the bike is STILL sitting in steve's shed in the primer, both of us have been far too busy with other things (and as my girlfriend doesn't know about it, it can take as long as it wants without it bothering her). She has also found hiking more to her favour than riding so it's less important, though it's still going to happen. Eventually .

Update: Steve went back to the UK early last year, so the bike is still just sitting about in the primer.
My girlfriend is now my fiancee, and soon to be my wife, maybe i can try to have it ready for her as a wedding present! .

One day this will happen, one day...

just a caution about primer, it doesn't keep out moisture but it actually absorbs it.
may not be obvious but it could be turning nasty underneath, I would get it painted
soon, or else you'll have to it all over.

Absolutely spot on mate, terrible stuff. I'll take the cyclones and floods up here over those fires, after a flood everything's covered in mud but at least there's SOMETHING left. Fingers crossed for the poor sods down there.
