Can anyone tell me about my bike?
Postby githoms » Wed Sep 28, 2011 9:48 pm
Hi everyone, I have a very beautiful (I think) old Malvern Star (I think) ladies bicycle, but I don't know anything about it. It has a number on the seat tube: 42520, and a lovely leather seat with a kangaroo on it "Bell 1240". It doesn't have the original wheels, and has had gears added. Can anyone tell me what era it's from please? I have a photo but can't work out how to attach it to my post....any suggestions? Many thanks!

You can't attach a picture from your PC to a post here**. What you need to do is publish it somewhere on the web (Photobucker or Flickr for instance) and then link to it.
If you do not have a photsharing site and do not want to set one up then you can post it to me (pm me and I will give you my email details) and I can then put it on my Photobucket spot for a while and then link it to this thread.
**(Unless my info is out of date in which case someone will repond here to enlighten me.)

Original leather seat and a set of whitewalls. I am impressed.
A pity that that the needs of safe riding have to be accommodated with the rear flasher.

you might need to have a few more posts before you are permitted to place images. When you are permitted this is how it is donegithoms wrote:Thank you very much Mr Clydesdale, that makes things easier for everyone!
nice bike, I have a MS Coronation frame for my wife. I have just about finished collecting the parts, so no excuses anymore.
the look of the rear flasher mentioned by Colin could be overcome by converting an old tail light with modern battery and LED, to achieve the old style looks and the modern visibility.

The frame number would make it about 1935/36.
Good to see it still wearing its original paint.

Thanks Bicyclepassion, gosh my bike is old. I've been riding it around the city for a few years now, and it's actually a bit too big for me. I really love it, but I think I'd probably do better with a smaller bike. Does anyone know of any bike museums that may be interested it? Or collectors? What do you think it's worth? Thanks again everyone. Gina
