perhaps contact the member who had a similar bike
viewtopic.php?f=23&t=54948" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and if he still has it, ask to get better quality photos
then make up some decals and have them printed off

I was just trawling through pics on the PC and realised I hadn't posted this here, the Torago I posted on page 1 eventually got rebuilt and as it was completely the wrong size for me I sold it at the start of the year. Came up pretty good :) .

Came across an old Malvern Star frame and fork set in the loft of our scout hall. It's been there for goodness knows how long and I plan to see how I can recycle it! Plans are to (hopefully) turn it into a single speed bike for myself. It will be a slow and steady affair, but I'm looking forward to it.

I am interested in what the experts think, I would have picked it as being something else with MS decals because there are no Stars on the head tube or embossed into the forks.

There is a stamp on the frame under the BB that says.... 15 - Brampton England.

Hi, I bought a Malvern Star frame and fork set from a local market today and was after some info on it.
It's has two star head tube and looks like a track bike. Also has a BSA crankset. Serial number on rear dropout is 95620.
Bike has original paint covered in surface rust with original decals still showing.
Any help would be good.

Can anyone shed any light on what tubing was used on the Malvern Star XL600?
I've got the opportunity to purchase one (full Shimano 600 arabesque) but would like to know some more details about the frame if possible.
All it has is a sticker which says "Fully Lugged Frame, Hand Brazed to High Speed Touring Specifications"

BSA cranks dates it to most likely pre 80s but from that info it's difficult to say any more, i'm not really familiar with MS serials. Get some photos up and it will be easy to get a lot more info.

Well i was right, definitely pre 80s  . Going off the English headset and the shape of the rear dropouts I'd say 40s or 50s, and looks a nice bit of gear. The dropouts are for a single speed or hub geared setup but it's not really a track bike per se, more what was known as a path racer, something that could be used both on the road and the track.

Hi Team,
It has been some time since I have posted anything but I wanted to share this 2 star step through - garage sale for $25. I would love to know if she has all the orig. parts. mud guards are in the shed.... too lazy to strip them back. she was painted green all over even the rims so i decided to take her back to metal and just clear coat her except i undercoated the frame. frame is in great condition - no pitting! SN number is 00125 so not sure of age - any help on identifying the age and what is original is appreciated. also on the Malvern Star page

Came across a seemingly period complete (but without trimmings) 2 star mens bike from the 50's in its obligatory coat of yellow house paint and somewhat locked up driveline just recently. And it would have fitted me. But I was put off by the $100 price tag...

Was I too hasty?

For that era and that price I don't think you were too hasty. I've seen them for $20 before so $100 seems a tad steep.

Hi guys,

I've got a Malvern Star Sprint which has a stem that has 4 bolts on it. Would that be the original stem for a malvern star sprint?
I'm also keen to know what year the bike was produced. It has a serial number starting with S5. I think it was made in the 80s but would like to find out for sure.

Thanks

On the first page of this thread I posted an MS I had picked up. It had lots of unoriginal bits on it, such as the deraillers and such. I couldn't use the outside rear cog as the chain wouldn't clear the seat stay.
I only recently had a chance to do anything with it, mostly because I had picked it up just a couple days after my daughter was born so I've been busy with that.

I haven't done much other than strip all the gears and associated bits off. I rebuilt the rear rim with a coaster brake (my first wheel build), threw on a modern crank I had laying around and changed a few other small bits. It's not done, but I'm riding it around as is to get a feel for it. I haven't wrapped the bars yet as I'll be changing the front brake and lever, and the silly seat post clamp is just what I had laying around that fit.
Will be doing a city pub/coffee ride all day Sunday, so should have a good idea of how it works by the end of the day.

Any suggestions?

Re Jadecu- no idea, perhaps post some photos if you can.

Re Commando - that is a really awesome rebuild.
just a few questions, where do you get coaster brakes from these days, and why did you elect to replace the front centre-pull brake ?
