That gives ma a great base to work off.
Looks like it has a bit of line work and hand painting
I am thinking of going with a Cyclo gear system will have to check the rear spacing and see what I can use.

I've recently 'inherited' my fathers old champ 2 Malver Star. He thinks it's mid 1960s, but maybe much older. The number on the bottom of the frame is 851, and the number on the right rear fork is 26710. Just hoping to get at least a ball park year of production.
Thanks!!

I have an old but in good condition Malvern Star SL500 Womens Step through bicycle and was trying to find the year of manufacture. There is a sticker on the bottom of the crank with the numbers: M 160 990 can anyone tell me roughly the year of manufacture ?? I email Malvern Star but the current brand owners know nothing.
Thanks:

I didn't need it.....but I had to have it. I suspect it will be the oldest bike I have!
On the head sticker under the Malvern Star it says something like "bruXX small product"
The serial number near the seat post is 39744
On the bottom bracket it has VXI which may be a personal ID?
The saddle is a small saddle manufactured by Leatheries Birmingham England No 502.
I think even the Dunlop atlantic tyres are original.

Father in law surprised me with this old gem yesty.
Believed to be 30's but not sure. Father in law is mid 60's and said his father had it before him. Anyway, it's a men's single star on head tube, with two stars each side of fork tubes. Oilers on both hubs and crank. 28" rims. Generator head light and tail light.
Serial # 142758
Cheers. Any help identifying it would be great.
Regards
Justin

Is 1939.
Its a roadster with the handlebars turned down, and a fine example of 'evolution' by adding parts and paint, as required, over a 76 year period.

Thanks Warren. My father in law will be stoked. Regarding the handle bars? Are the bars supposed to be positioned like the pics but turned up? Or reversed and turned up?bicyclepassion wrote:#142758 '1 Star'.

07.293: Looks like it has a dot between 07 and 293? This number doesnt make sense, looks like a (1950's?) roadster frame. With all newer or non standard components. If you can post photos of head lugs, may give us some more clues.

851 under bottom bracket is the casting number from the manufacturer of the bb shell.

A Malvern 2 star found me, serial number 1301 stamped on the seat tube. No visible markings on bottom bracket. Can't see any other numbers. No stars on the forks.
The rear wheel has a freewheel on one side and fixed on the other with snailshell type chain tensioners
Central pull Philco brakes on the rear with similar but slightly more modern Phillips brakes on the front.
Havn't found any marks on the chainring so far but it is a replaceable one that bolts on to the crankset.
it has 28 x 1 3/8 type rims with new tyres coming from Abbotsford cycles (stoked as because I can't locate any of that size in NZ even though the ones on it at present were made only a few kilometres from where I write this.)
I'm guessing it's had a reco at some stage. No decals and bad red paint job.
From what I have read it may be early but would be greatful of any further information.
