#01840 mens , rear facing dropouts, there is blue paint under the silver. Someone resprayed shimmed the handle bars on there & also put a nail in with seat pole.
Rear hub is immaculate, rims look like they were shiny when parked until the chain rusted itself together.

I have more photos I'll upload soon.

Hello,
I have an old Malvern Star 2 star Ladies bicycle. The serial number is 5M 16180 located on the top of the frame where the seat post slides into the frame. Any idea on how old this bike is?
Cheers

Not pre 30, Im guessing about 65ish. Bought it on ebay over the weekend to add to my growing stable of Malvern Stars of a similar vintage. I know its a base model cheaper frame. Most of the frame looks the quality of basic skidstars I have. Just the rear drop out is different.

What can members tell me about this frame? Presume it was a budget model track bike that brakes could be fitted to. Looks like its had brakes fitted in a previous life.

Cheers Geoff

Indeed that one is a Semi racer. they were called a Semi racer in fact. But it would have had mudgaurds and lights when new.

Hi, new to the forum and just found this old thread. Quite interested to know age of my 2star track bike frame numbered 4P 1586. The BB has stamped in it BB GR23 and "Made in England". The fork is not original and the groupset is a bit of a mismatch that I wouldn't rely on. That said, the quill stem is an old alloy Phillips (with open "rear end") I think Williams crank set. Much appreciated!

the numbering convention would indicate 1944 Perth build.
Whether it is a track frame or a road frame having rear facing dropouts would need photos.

Hi, I've got my great grandfather's bike that I thought was a Malvern Star. It's got the right 2 star forks, but no stars on the frame. The frame serial number is D6806 which is stamped on the down tube near where the seat post goes in.
Any help with this would be great. I think it's early 30s or late 20s.
The bottom bracket is a Bayliss Wiley and the coaster hub is a Favorit (not sure it was original).
This is my first post, so if photos are needed I'll work that out later.
Thanks in advance, Ryan

I recently bought a second hand Malvern Star bike with M4J51960 imprinted below the crankshaft. Does this indicate it is a 1960 model? If not, please advise what year it would have been made. Thank you.

It's not a 1960 model. It sounds like a much later model, but will require photos if you want an accurate opinion.

photos would be needed but generally no stars = no malvern star , sounds like something else with MS forks

Ryan
any details on wheel size and are there any engravings on the chainset (look on the back of the ring and crank arms)?

Good old genetic roadster frame with pressed ends, with Malvern Star forks.

Wheels are 28", not matching rims, front is a 40 hole hub, rear is 36 hole.

and sorry, I'm still trying to clean 80 odd years of grime from the crankset and crank arms, haven't seen any writing on those thus far, but there is a load of crust on them...

ok , it may be a Speedwell frame but there are some differences that leave me at "may be" not "is"

Hi everyone, I have an old Malvern Star frame with a 4 digit serial number "3M 7062"
I was just wondering if anyone could help in identifying a year of production?
Or any other information about this particular frame.

Thanks

1943 Melbourne

Photos are needed to help identify the original style of the bike.

Hi DavidW. You might find reading this helpful:

http://www.bicycles.net.au/forums/viewt ... 23&t=76629

Given we've spent years (and our own money) accumulating knowledge, as vintage bicycle enthusiasts we're a bit reticent in replying to new posts that are other people's lazy preparation for a listing on fleabay or the like.

That said, what are your plans? If it's just to sell then please offer it first to forum members who know how to preserve and respect it. You can only ruin an old bike once ...
