7r47 5 star. This is not a number from the normal Malvern Star sequence, so can you post some pics and I should be able to date it.

T 1017. 2 Star. This is also not from the normal sequence. Pics required. Where is the number located?

I have a 1946 2 star grocery delivery bike that has been "repainted" by brush. I want to restore it to the former glory, however I don't have a clue whether these bikes had any scroll work and decals applied. Anyone got any idea what the paint/decal schemes may have looked like? Was there a selection of colours or was it that you could have any colour as long as it was black?

Ah, I think I might be able to help out here. I have one of these in the shed in 'unrestored' condition. I have photos but they will need to be scanned in (paper prints, remember those?). It has the wheels off at the moment but I'll try and get out with the digital camera today to take some photo's of the paintwork and maybe scan in a couple of the old prints. The bike is basically a dark brown colour with white/cream box lining. I' pretty sure it's original.

Photos of bike in shed. I can do more if you like and/or supply some hi-res by e-mail.
Still searching for the old print photos.

Wow, yours is an interesting frame. Thanks for the pics. Previous owners of mine changed out the rear wheel. I'll either fit a NOS band brake coaster hub or a refurbished SA hub like yours.

Yes, sorry, should have said, mine's a delivery trike. On re-reading your post you have a low loader two wheel delivery bicycle?
The paintwork was probably similar.

No, effectively a ladies bike with additional crossbar for a sign and racks fore and aft. Front rack expands to carry a box. Paintwork would be similar. I'll check the hidden parts for paint colour and gently rub back the brushed paint to see what I can find.

Hi, I have a 5 star malvern star. I presume it's a road bike single speed, it has provisions for brakes, long horizontal dropouts. Forks don't have stars but they are normal crown types. Serial number is 21813. If anyone has information it would be greatly appreciated, I will be restoring it soon.

I have pictures if that might help but I don't know how to post them:/

This seems an odd placement (and number sequence) for an MS serial number. Don't they usually (at least post-WW2) appear stamped on the right dropout? Warren (aka bicyclepassion) should have a more enlightened answer on this ...

5 star 21813: Frame number under bottom bracket is unusual, but probably just means it is a custom 5 star, and probably not built at the Malvern Star factory. I wouldn't be surprised if this is an earlier frame, (early 1950's) rebuilt/re configured in the early 1960's. The Headfittings, brakes, paint colour and scheme, and small scroll decals all suggest early 1960's.
Most of the custom road bikes by the 1960's had cast Campagnolo, or similar, fork ends by then.
Pull the forks out and see if there is another number stamped on the steerer tube. Have a look on the steerer, and under the crown race, for evidence of previous paint and maybe a different colour.
Have a look for a date code under the seat (If it is a Brooks). (Not that that will be conclusive for dating the frame).
Have a look inside BB shell for evidence of previous paint.

7R41: (previously enquiry for 7R47?) This number does not conform to the 'normal' Malvern Star sequence. So its very difficult to date this frame in the absence of more info and photos. The fact that it does not conform to the usual sequence doesn't mean a lot in itself, as many numbers stamped on Malvern Star frames, particularly the top end racing frames, do not conform to the factory numbering system. Refer to numerous previous posts for more info.
