Beautiful bicycle. Love that era.

For 5 seconds fun... floors being sanded/2 pot mixed at home. Had to store at work. Offset plate coming out of 'setter/processor in foreground.

Posted in the Apollo forum, but thought I'd re-list here as the derailleur isn't one you see every day.

Image

The bike is an Apollo III that I found at a second hand furniture shop of all places. It has a real mixed bag of components, with the most interesting a Suntour LePree three pulley rear deralleur. First I've ever seen of these, you could wrap a stupid amount of chain with it!

New yaban chain with bits missing from it (hollowed plates :) ) and Brooks B17.

I know it is an optical illusion, but the angle of that photo gives us the impression that the front rim is a deeper V than the rear.

So my advice is to repeat the photo with a front wheel with shallower V.

Nice one mate.

I hadn't noticed but now you mention it...
Both 46mm, i could go with smaller on the front, or use it as an excuse to step up to 60-80mm on the back :D .
I'm actually considering building a new wheelset with Novatec hubs and 60mm carbon clincher rims. Maybe 60 front 80 rear, with some aftermarket Reynolds decals. But then the silver/blue scheme would be out, unless i have a crack at painting carbon, danger will robinson!

just to be a Contrarian, I actually think that a classic frame like this, with it's Brooks really needs a more classic original style wheel set. Those hideous blue deep things totally spoil what is a really classically styled frame with a nice pedigree. And as for Crabon wheels, save them for a crabon frame.

Each to their own, i absolutely adore the look of it. But i do have a lovely set of 27" single speed wheels on my Tom Wallace, i'll throw those on and see how it looks.

Here is a track frame I have just completed. This frame has been around for a few years in my shed. :)
The detail: Zeus cranks and pedals, Blumfield Duralite hi flange hubs, tubular tyres, steel head stem, bars, and headset.
This frame is very light with no tubing stickers.
It has been renovated (repainted etc) in the past and I have added the wheels to complete.
On the seat tube is a decal: Reno by T.Dixon Traralgon (partially damaged and hard to read)

even in its current state it is a damn beautiful bike, the fancy lugs and wrap around seat stays do it for me - where do chaps find these treasures :?:

The blue wheels

And a set of black cheap v's i have for another project.

The blue wheels are definitely still my pick, the black ones don't stand out as much and the 27" wheels are downright boring.

I think the 27" are the winners actually loch - its just the tyres that are boring.

The 27" wheels look classic but if the blue cranks are staying on, I think the blue wheels tie in better. Maybe taking a couple of links out of the chain to pull the wheel forward would help too.

Back to telling you about my bikes. This is a Scott AFD906 Team issue 1996 model. Bought the frame from a member of this forum on ebay a couple of years ago. Think I was the only bidder.

This is the only 906 that I've seen in the flesh but a guy in Vienna had the same frame on ebay last week. It only came in yellow and was Dura-ace 8 sp STi equipped.
The frame and fork are Easton Tubing 7005 double butted. Still has the original Ritchey CompLite stem but I changed the bars as it was too long for me and I really liked the stem. Dura-ace cranks and rings. Rest of the groupset is 8 sp RX100 that I pulled from a Shogun with a cracked frame. Wheels are Formula Microlite hubs, ss spokes and Sunrims (Venus). I liked the look of it on ebay as a contrast to my Cannondale which looks fairly busy while this one is more subtle. 9.2kg
I rode this on a Raturday riverloop a couple of weeks ago as my non-magnetic retro. :)

lochy, keep the 27inch ss wheelset on bro. those gumwalls look the bomb!!!! maybe some silver cranks and gumwall hoods would make it look damn sexy with that frame!!!
