My first post after a year or two of visiting. Just picked up something I think worth of gracing these pages, however images may have to wait until post count has been reached. So my retro gem is a 1981 Nishiki Trim Master. It's a European model with Tange Champion No.2 frame tubes, Shimano 600 Arabesque group set save for Shimano 600 ax crankset and SR Laprade seatpost. Araya rims laced with immaculate stainless spokes to 600 hubs. I have a feeling the gumwall tyres are the originals with one still inflated and the other bin material. Does not have the original seat but after lots of net investigating it looks to be a Kahimax Aero. Believe it or not this seat is still being handmade in Japan and will one day again grace this bicycle. Look forward to posting pics up when I can.
Cheers
Chris.

Finding the hoods in good condition is very rare. I’m looking for 600 ax & levers in good condition are easy to find, but no hoods. As I understand it the shimano hoods of this era have not been reproduced.
What are you putting them on?

They are nice aren't they? I have 2 pairs: black and brown. Bit pricey though, hope they last a long time.Sharkey wrote:Not so much a picture of my bike but I just bought some new old-school Italian leather shoes to wear on the old-school Italian steel bike. They are just beautiful and suit the bike perfectly.

Yes. Dromarti used to make a flat sole version but haven't for a while. Quoc Pham have one and it's also made of leather:P!N20 wrote:^ No cleats allowed on the Strade Bianche though.

I didn't know cleats weren't allowed, that's getting a little silly i think. Period components and look sure but having shoes that look the part and just happen to have cleats is hardly going to be the ruination of the thing.

I had a couple of pairs of the Same Same but Different shoes. They were very good, lasted well, comfortable and looked great. Couldn't go past the Dromatis though! The SSBD shoes are excellent and a lot cheaper.P!N20 wrote:^ There was a post on the always excellent Retrogrouch blog on the rules of L'Eroica: http://bikeretrogrouch.blogspot.com.au/ ... roica.html - I tend to agree; there's thousands of other cycling events if you want to ride your vintage bike with modern bits.

Pretty sure they were on special last time I bought some too.Sharkey wrote:Dromarti have 30% off at the moment so the Sportivos (which seem to be the only ones available) work out at $271 delivered to Australia.
Plus, you can buy the business now.
