I'm new to the group and not very tech savvy.
I have a 80's retro roadie that was acquired through an inheritance and I was hoping someone could help me with a couple things.
First how do post pictures on this forum, I see all the tabs above and it all is a little confusing .
The bike is a Van Werkhoven with a Reynolds 531 frame and blade forks. It has Sante running gear and Campagnolo Omega Strada Hardox rims.
I really would love to hold on to it but I don't have the room and I scared it will get damaged or stolen.
I'ts in beautiful shape for it's age and would really like a honest opinion on it's value.
Thanks for any help in advance.

Bit of a mish-mash of Campag and Dura-Ace 7400~7402 and track. Built the wheels myself.
Perfect for no hassles speed round town.

(now with new owner)
Done thousands of miles on the Hercules which I bought in 1996,way before the retro revolution. Took ages to find the right sized chainguard.
Had the Rudge for just over a year. Love the old timers. Serial 785239.
Missed the Firefly so much that I adopted this
Lineage t.b.c..... Work in progress.
Happy wheeling.

Yes seats gone up a bit since I took the photo, brakes will go once I get fixes hub rear wheel
NJS frame ,everything is NJS but the wheels & brakes
Picked up this frame for $50 just because I liked the lugs & it has Shimano dropouts
So I've started collecting Shimano Arabesque gear for it
How it is today , waiting to get the derailers & shifters fitted later this week

Nice rides. What is that silver frame? Are the forks original?spannermonkey wrote:

Fastback seatstay, shimano dropouts. Not trek or raleigh I would guess. Have you weighed the frame and fork?
Have you got a few more photos?

I think it could be a Malvern Star XX , saw one on face book & they look the same

Seat stay caps, Shimano uF vertical dropouts are not a factory sort of finish. What I find interesting is over the BB cable routing with vertical dropouts. Very rarely do you see that. I'm thinking its a mid 80s frame.
Do you have a closer pic of the dropouts?

I bought this bike for my wife recently at an auction for $20.00. Cleaned it up, bought new tires and tubes, and bought the cane basket at Kmart for another $10.00. I know what your thinking, I've gone CRAZY spending that much on her, but she rides well.... the bike I mean. Quite surprised how well it does ride and how cheap it was, but as girls bikes were looked after more that mens, more survived and in better condition.

Picked up this Cecil from a mate a few days ago , just finished putting it together with what I had laying around
A few more parts in the mail , juggle a few parts between bikes when they arrive
And all 3 bikes should (hopefully)be finished by next weekend

Always wanted a Cecil Walker, when I was a teenager. Never had the money, though, so bought a Peugot Gents Tourer. Did lots of 'kays around town, and up Mt Macedon (and down again!!!). Yes, the P G T did cost more than any Malvern Star I liked, but way less than any CW.
Still Dreaming.

relating to, reviving, or being the styles and especially the fashions of the past : fashionably nostalgic or old-fashioned
This is the style of the past. Circa 1995.

Here are some pics of my Abeni. As you will notice it has the Abeni pantographs. She was orignally partly red over chromed Reynolds 531. I stripped the paint with the intention of a respray but found the chrome was too good. The wheels are non original new Alex Rims which I like the look of. F & R derailluer are not original campagnola so I have hung the 600 Arabesque I had lying around on for now. I have a pair of Brooks saddles of the right era but prefer the look of this carbon race saddle.Everything else is as she was made..o
I have spoken with John Abeni on 2 occasions and came way more confused than before. My best info is from the original owner who says she purchased it in new 1982. All other info I have sort of confirms this.
Out of interest I have a 2013 full carbon Felt roadie, weighs 7.2 kilos, has $3000 wheelset and running Ultegra groupset. This Abeni is a better ride in every way. Havent ridden the plastic bike in 9mths, I prefer the Abeni.
Hope you like her.

It is frame bars and stem only. Has track dropouts on rear. Circa 1950s. Still has its original paint including all hand painted stripes etc.
The original owner passed away just recently, the frame has been in my care for years. His wish was for it to go to a good home. If you would like to collect it from Port Stephens NSW or cover postage costs I will be happy to see it go to a good home. I would prefer it was collected so I can meet its next custodian.
Cheers Al
