Olmo Road Bike Build

Been looking for something new to build, just picked up this Olmo with Dedacciai CrMo tubing. Unsure what model it is, can’t find a lot of info about the Dedacciai tubing either. Has braze-ons for front and rear mudguards (already fitted), Italian BB and a fair bit of clearance for fatter tyres, 130mm rear spacing.

Plans are to give it a clean up and maybe respray in a deep red colour and find some reproduction stickers. Not sure which way to go as far as groupset – I can pick up a full Campy Veloce 10spd for $480, but I would like to try and find some mid-90s Athena or Chorus Ergo stuff – seems hard to find though, been trawling eBay and other sites with not much luck. Probably end up being my wet weekend training bike, keep the commuter for work duties only

I found the Olmo's to have very similar ride qualities to Colnago's. They are good value framesets.

Seddo, went for $220 with only my bid - suggests that it may have been a bit much but I liked it

Might swap the (unused) mudguards over to my commuter as they have heaps of coverage with the flaps, keep the slimmer SKS Chromoplastics for this one. Head tube is quite short and low but still nice to sit on with some spare parts.

Anyone used the Challenge Parigi-Roubaix tyre before? Deciding between these and the cheaper Panaracer Pasela Tourguard.

Agreed. I was living in London at the time, and these were marketed as a "winter" frame - bigger tyres and mudguards for their horrible winter. Slightly longer wheelbase, but still reasonable angles. The tubing was usually pretty basic, but always CrMo, and usually double butted.

This one will make a really nice bike.

Yeah, when I bought the bike initially it was going to be a wet weekend ride and keep my TCR for dry days.. Now that it's repainted, I'm not sure I want to ride it in the wet any more!

One problem I have come across is that my collection of Shimano tools is pretty useless for an Italian build.. Have to start a Campag box now..

Got to admit, when I first saw this with the lazier angles, larger clearances I was kinda indifferent. But now I've seen your painted frame with a pre build mock up I'm in love.
Smaller dimension frames always look a little lazy to my eye, but this thing looks like it will present as a well balanced, all round commuter friendly bike. Don't be at all surprised if it feels so damn comfy you will pick it first as an old friend go to, ever reliable bike.

Done Taken it for a couple of spins up and down Beach Rd and I am loving it. Such a nice cruiser on the flats, getting used to the Campy ergo shifters still but quite impressed with the Veloce.

That is disturbingly attractive. The TB14's are remarkable, they seem to look right on bikes from so many periods. I will admit to having reservations about the logo laden bar tape though; everything else on the bike seems to be the essence of design economy.
