old bmx frame

hi there i have this old bmx frame that is brown in colour and has a sticker on the bottom tube that says sun tourer and on the front has a yellow sticker that says quicksilver i have some pics of it but if its just an old piece of junk i wont bother about it and will scrap it
hope some one knows what this is

as i have had it for maybe 10 yrs or more

If you can post some pics and a serial number it would help to determine if it is an original quicksilver frame. Definately dont throw it out just yet.

first one's a bike brand, second one's a fashion/surf brand.

Could be worth a fortune if it's a real quicky, although don't think they ever sold brown ones.

I think you need 10 posts, but I think if you upload the to photobucket etc you can stick up a link, otherwise email them to me and I'll post them for you..

If you can send me the serial number, which may be located under the paint on the underside of the 'matchbox' [just behind the bottom bracket shell] then I should be able to positively identify it as a Quicksilver, .... or not.
If there is no matchbox then have a look at the dropouts, both outside & inside for a serial.
A clear picture of the serial & the frame will be a big help. Some serials were struck by someone with a weak wrist & the stampings are very shallow & hard to read which will require removal of paint under the matchbox in order to see it.

The spelling will of course be the correct 'Quicksilver' & there is no connection with that limp wristed surf brand.

Oh yeah, some Quickie frames were painted brown ex-factory, but it was not popular & was discontinued.

id like to take the time to thank those guys who have helped me with info about this old frame that i have had for years not knowing much about it its greatt to have people who can help out in these situations once again to all those who can and have helped i do apreciate it

hi jimmy boy is it one that you have seen or owned before like i said i dont know much about these things but i do like collecting and hanging onto lots of old stuff my wife wants to dump all of it as she not a collector like me lol i just need to build a giant shed to keep it all in lol

I'd be quite confident to say it is a Quicky. But Kid_Carbine would have the definitive answer as he is very passionate about that particular marque.

I've got a 26" frame. A 20" is next on the cards when one pops up.

You're right, I am a dedicated Quicksilver historian & collector & this one is a type 2 Frame that was first made in late 1981.
It remained in production untill late 1983.

A 26" Cruiser is one of the models that I still seek to make a complete set of Australian manufactured models.

This site is awesome , i'm new to all this fancy computer stuff haha.... I used to race BMX in the 90's ...I started on a hotfoot i think? that i bought off a mate from school for $20 it was covered in rust , i cleaned it up and i was away i was hooked ...i then got an old steel frame mongoose, that i fixed up an put alloy rims on etc and raced with that, until i ended up buying a percentage magmoly frame and forks and built it up , it was my pride and joy worth about $950 all up, which was a huge amount for me (mum haha) in those days...anyway i got out of racing and into freestyle, then just kinda used a MTB for transport to work ..and have just got back into MTB trails ..its in my blood i think haha. So now that you know my life story ) haha. I recently found out that an old HELIUM QUICKSILVER frame and forks that i have, had for years might be very Rare indeed , just wondering if anyone can help out on an appraisal , NOT SURE if i want to sell it as i have always wanted to do it up and ride it..but maybe for the right price who knows ...Any help would be great ..cheers guys n gals ))

Actually, i'll eat my words on that. I did a completed listing search on ebay and one did sell last year for just over 3k.

Whether or not it is worth 3k is another argument all together!

As the blokes over on OZ have said. Just keep it mate and ride it...

If you do decide to sell it, just make sure you find a collector with deep enough pockets. Not many of those around at the moment though.

My 26" Quicky would be the last one i sell out of the collection.

LOL indeed...hard to guage a price on these. As the last one to pass through collectors hands before the 3k one sold for 1200 not too long before.

As to whether it is worth 3k is another thing. It's a lot of $$$ to fork over just to win a pissing contest.

I reckon If you put it on oz for 3 k it would be gone in 24 hrs..
Doesn't mean it's worth anything close to that though...
Quicky values have doubled in the last 2 years, I saw a 26 frame go for 600 , 2 years ago
I reckon it would go for 2k ATM..
