I have nothing to add beyond serious respect for Joes work. Oh, and quoting the post to bring the pics into the current page ...whatever the road rules, self-preservation is the absolute priority for a cyclist when mixing it with motorised traffic.

Re: Hetchins Project Magnum Opus Phase 2I've been looking forward to seeing this and it's beautiful, that work around the lugs and windows is superb and the colours are terrific.
Plus your lawn is looking a treat
Re: Hetchins Project Magnum Opus Phase 2
Amen to that - lawn too.
Re: Hetchins Project Magnum Opus Phase 2Joe is a genius with the masking tape....
Re: Hetchins Project Magnum Opus Phase 2Very impressive. Stunning actually.
So you going to start the lug lining now?
Re: Hetchins Project Magnum Opus Phase 2Lovely Mustang. Joe is a legend. I really love those twin plate fork steerer's they look awesome.
Bugger that the whole thing is a cracker. I cant wait for the complete build. Go easy though you don't want to scratch that paint until you ride it. ![]()
Re: Hetchins Project Magnum Opus Phase 2
Haha, i can just imagine how much fun that must have been. I can see how it would take 5 hrs to do all that masking too, absolutely spectacular job. When man invented the bicycle he reached the peak of his attainments- Elizabeth West.
Re: Hetchins Project Magnum Opus Phase 2What are the little loops at the bottom of the head tube? They look out of place.

Re: Hetchins Project Magnum Opus Phase 2(ugly) cable guides, i suspect, to protect the paintwork from being abraded. surely mustnag can get something a bit classier fabbed up. looks like bits raided from the watering system.

Re: Hetchins Project Magnum Opus Phase 2
Thought I would get a caning with these??? They came on my Pinnarello & I thought they would keep the cables off the headset, now that so much work has gone into the project. I have rubber cable protectors on my Viner but they still wear. Hhhhmmm what to do? If I cut down the size of the loop & re-brased them They might look OK, For the time being there going.............gone Thanks guys for the honest criticism
Re: Hetchins Project Magnum Opus Phase 2
Not sure, its such a small frame it could get crowded. While I was at Joes he has a 5 Star for painting. The pin striping is so fine & a work of art it seems to be a shame to repaint. Apparently there is a guy in Canberra thats going to copy the original design. I would like some fine work but nothing too obtrusive, maybe double box. For the complete build, I'm mostly away for the next two weeks, so will be posting on my return. Last edited by Mustang on Wed Mar 13, 2013 7:14 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: Hetchins Project Magnum Opus Phase 2maybe some little chrome rings would look nicer. given all that fancy lugwork, those just look too modern.

Re: Hetchins Project Magnum Opus Phase 2Very nice, I agree on removing the head tube cable guides.
What wheels are you planing on running? The open pro's in the mock build? It would look great with some polished H+son tb14 laced to some white industries.
Re: Hetchins Project Magnum Opus Phase 2WOW that is super nice.
Compliments on a fine looking frame. Cant wait to see it built up. SL
Re: Hetchins Project Magnum Opus Phase 2
I'd stick with Mavic and scrounge some silver Campagnolo Records up off eBay. More appropriate IMHO. ![]()
Re: Hetchins Project Magnum Opus Phase 2I just thought black wheels may look a little funny with all silver parts,
Re looking over this frame and wow it is amazing .
Re: Hetchins Project Magnum Opus Phase 2
Definitely. ![]()
Re: Hetchins Project Magnum Opus Phase 2
The frame has pedigree (it was built by Hetchins) ( with mostly NOS parts), but no history, so I figure I can play with retro/modern. The groupset wll be Athena alloy, the wheels for the moment are alloy Centaur hubs, s/s spokes & black Mavic rims, if my wallet recovers I'll consider alloy rims, but the mavics looked OK in mock up. If its not perfect, yet, it will keep the books open for criticism
Re: Hetchins Project Magnum Opus Phase 2
You know I'm a sucker for dark anodised rims. I say keep the mavics.
Not sure there's any criticism of any of your builds, Brent. Healthy critique, however... Looking fine as always!
Re: Hetchins Project Magnum Opus Phase 2Yeah no hate just a suggestion, i really like the frame and the build.
What a swan song bike
