Cloudy this morning so the true colour is washed out,


I was worried that the colour may have been too modern, but I love it, he painted the whole bike in ivory, then the Candy Apple over. He (Joe) had poetic licence to finish the frame as he saw fit.


Detail is sensational,


Started building today, although I'll be slow, have lots of commitments over the next two weeks, so hopefully my leg will be rideable by then.

Joe is a legend, took 3 hrs to pick it up

I cant wait for the complete build. Go easy though you don't want to scratch that paint until you ride it.

Haha, i can just imagine how much fun that must have been. I can see how it would take 5 hrs to do all that masking too, absolutely spectacular job.

What are the little loops at the bottom of the head tube? They look out of place.

(ugly) cable guides, i suspect, to protect the paintwork from being abraded. surely mustnag can get something a bit classier fabbed up. looks like bits raided from the watering system.

Thought I would get a caning with these??? They came on my Pinnarello & I thought they would keep the cables off the headset, now that so much work has gone into the project.
I have rubber cable protectors on my Viner but they still wear. Hhhhmmm what to do? If I cut down the size of the loop & re-brased them They might look OK,

Not sure, its such a small frame it could get crowded. While I was at Joes he has a 5 Star for painting. The pin striping is so fine & a work of art it seems to be a shame to repaint. Apparently there is a guy in Canberra thats going to copy the original design.
I would like some fine work but nothing too obtrusive,maybe double box.

For the complete build, I'm mostly away for the next two weeks, so will be posting on my return.

maybe some little chrome rings would look nicer. given all that fancy lugwork, those just look too modern.

I'd stick with Mavic and scrounge some silver Campagnolo Records up off eBay. More appropriate IMHO.

The frame has pedigree (it was built by Hetchins) ( with mostly NOS parts), but no history, so I figure I can play with retro/modern.
The groupset wll be Athena alloy, the wheels for the moment are alloy Centaur hubs, s/s spokes & black Mavic rims, if my wallet recovers I'll consider alloy rims,
but the mavics looked OK in mock up.
If its not perfect, yet, it will keep the books open for criticism

You know I'm a sucker for dark anodised rims. I say keep the mavics.

Not sure there's any criticism of any of your builds, Brent. Healthy critique, however...
