I re-framed my green bike to build something faster for my upcoming ride to conquer cancer.. haven't weighed it yet but geez it's quick!
I got the frame from HappyHumber, it's a 62cm Ricardo Nuovo frame in Tange 2, and the fork is carbon fibre with Cr-Mo steerer from a Cannondale 2.8 that I couldn't fix. It's a really sweet combination!
That combination got the Campagnolo Veloce groupset and Khamsin wheelset from my Colnago, a Tange Vantage headset from the above mentioned Cannondale, some Modolo anatomic bars, an ITM stem and quill stem adaptor. The seat post is an SR Laprade and saddle is an original Selle Italia Flite from the 90s.
I've done a century on it and about 500km back and forth to work so far and I love it, so I think I will re paint it soon and it might be a keeper.
Here's a pic :
Commute? this is my fast bike! I train on this one, and race (when I occasionally do). I have been commuting on it with a back pack until I build my commuting bike back up with another groupset but first it's getting some more bidon mounts brazed onto it etc and a powdercoat.
Yeah the Flite is pretty comfortable. I was riding on an old Selle San Marco Rolls which was very comfortable for 50km but a little bit too wide and after that distance, became uncomfortable. Time will tell once I do a century on the Flite.
Hahaha....yeah - fast commute!
Well I usually do the ride to work in around 40mins, the best time last week (before I upgraded my bars/stem to get a lower position) was 33min 40sec, I'm going to try and get that down this week to 30 flat when I put my Profile aero bars back on. Yeeha!
Oh, good stuff! It was a crazy weekend. On the first day we did the 100-odd km in just on 3 and a half hours. What were you riding Saro? I sat on 38km/h with some nice guys on carbon TCR's for about the last 30km into Pinjarra! Can't wait to put some lighter wheels on this thing!
I was on a 1956 Healing, (so makes it 56yo) complete with a bell and back pedal brake, droppped bars were upturned, just like grandpa, 28" wheels, brooks B17, mtb clipins, Av 24kph over both days. Twas funny seeing the look on some of the faces when I went past em, especially on the hills. All the clickin, clunking, grinding and some cursing
( "hey mate, is yr bike ok, it's makin' a lotta noise" LOL) and I'd just get up and grind it out, (no choice) except up out of the Resivour before the m7 path, way too steep.
the fun we had will be repeated

Immediate plans for the bike are upgrading to a more modern cockpit for ease of adjustments etc so I've got some Deda EL bars and stem on the way (modern standard size 31.8mm making it easy to fiddle with stem length etc) and I am looking at a new Flite saddle.
In the next few months I'm keen to upgrade my wheels to some Campagnolo Zonda's (1527gm) and continental GP4000's with conti race light tubes as my "racing" wheels.
Still haven't weighed it but I reckon it's about 9.5-9.8kg at the moment, the lighter bars/stem and wheels will help!
Some updates.. weighed on bathroom scales it's slightly over 9kg even.. with the new seatpost (much, much longer but lighter) speedplay zero's, and Deda bars and 3T ARX PRO stem. But also with heavy gatorskins.
I love this bike, it's a 64cm ST and 60cm TT frame, and with a 100mm stem turned up for 6+ degree's is the most comfortable I've ever been on a bike. Awesome for long rides.
Plans now are to re-paint it early in the new year .. I really want a pearlescent metallic pewter blue like I've seen on a Cinelli laser with dark blue bar tape, To this I'll add discrete Ricardo decals. Also planning to upgrade the bars to 3T Rotundo Pro (80g lighter than current bars but really I just want the logo to match the stem) .. what a nice frame though, just beautiful.
I think the carbon fork from the cannondale is a bit flexy for a 78kg rider though .. it's a bit unnerving on descents, at 60km/h it's very lively and feels floaty in the front end. Once I paint it I may change back to the steel fork.
