1930s Tom Wallace SpecialMy brother recently purchased a Tom Wallace Special- complete but in rough condition.. has anyone restored a Wallace from this period? Would like to pump them for advice.
Re: 1930s Tom Wallace SpecialHi
I have restored an old tom wallace special from the 60's. ![]() it was a crusier with a three speed sturmey archey hub. came up a treat.. if you have a sturmey archer hub you can date it from the hub. depending on how bad the decals are I can put in touch with a place to get new ones... ![]() anyway post some photos when you can
Re: 1930s Tom Wallace SpecialMate thats awesome! the decals are the same except for the special font- rims are painted and pinstriped and yeah a strumy hub! would dig the contact for your decals though. nice to see one restored- people like you keep these old rides alive and well!
Re: 1930s Tom Wallace SpecialG'day Mate, I'm just about to start one myself, although on a Tom Wallace "Austral" Special. Here's my thread http://www.bicycles.net.au/forums/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=58388
Cheers, Ken
Re: 1930s Tom Wallace SpecialHow do you tell from the hub ? I am the brother in question here ....
Re: 1930s Tom Wallace SpecialDone some research and worked it all out
Cheers
Re: 1930s Tom Wallace Specialif interested in the decals send an email to Andrew at [email protected]
he has an ebay site. I found it hard to find somewhere in bris vagas to get the decals done and when I sent him a request he was great. very happy with the quality of the decals. also you can date the sturmey archer hub by the year number which is just under the brand name on the hub... John ps just purchased an old healing track bike...next project.
Re: 1930s Tom Wallace SpecialGee, when I saw Jhea57's photo under the 1930s heading, I said to myself "That's not 1930s, it's 1960's" before I read the post. I had one exactly the same as my first big bike after the dragster. I had to sell the dragster in shame after my sister beat me in a race on her Healing 28" ladies bike.
I bought the Special off my brother in law for $48. Exactly the same colours as the one in the photo with 3 sp Sturmy Archer. He had bought it new from the Lutwych shop to ride to high school in about 1970. It had a black and white sprung saddle and chrome rims with serations on the braking surfaces for grip. I was just getting into racing at that time also so I put some drop bars on as well as a flip flop rear wheel with fixed and ratchet. So there you go. Tom Wallace Special roadster, as used for racing. Sorry that this post has nothing to do with the thread. Tony
