Hi

Im looking at buying a De Rosa road bike circa 1980's as far as I can gather. It has the marque heart embossing on the frame, incl under the BB. However, the frame is in Reynolds 531. The owner says he bought from new.

Just wondering if someone could help varifying the bike ie. model, year etc? Didnt know that De Rosa used Reynolds tubing on thier frames...

Any help would be greatly appreciated :D

Thanks
Thom

Eddy Merckx won his first Tour de France in 1969 on a De Rosa built, Reynolds 531, bike. I think Ugo De rosa built a number of reynolds 531 tubed bikes for Eddy Merckx in the early '70's and they were branded "EDDY MERCKX"

My guess (only a guess) is that the early De Rosa's were probably built with Reynolds tubing but later changed to Columbus tubing. I would guess that this may have been before the 1980's.

Yep, tubing "fashion" swapped around a lot in the 80s. 531 was marketed very well, and found it's way onto all sorts of frames.
