Was my Clamont made by Geoff Scott?

Postby troydquinn » Tue Jan 22, 2013 5:58 pm

Hi,
I recently sold a 1980s metallic gun metal grey Clamont 810 on eBay (pic below). The successful bidder bought the bike thinking it was made by Geoff Scott. It doesn't say "Geoff Scott" anywhere on the bike. It has a decal on the seat tube "Made in Japan".
My questions are:
1) Was the tubing or the whole bike made in Japan?
2) Was this bike made by Geoff Scott?

All help greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

The whole frame was made in Japan. Geoff made custom frames under the same brand but many Clamonts were mass produced.

He made a custom one for me, which was very nice.

Did Clamont not bring in Miyata's under some sort of naming rights deal, too? That may well be a Miyata-built frame.

EDIT: The more I look at it, the more I'm convinced its one of the re-stickered Miyata frames. Probably one of their spline triple butted jobbies. Quality, strong, good condition.
