Europa CX version??

Its been a while since i've had a project/semi-project on the go but a friend threw this at me the other day and said either you take it or i'm chucking it.

Europa frame with cantis and 700c wheels. Could this be an earlier cx build or does this come 26in wheels and someone just threw in 700s for functionality?? I asked my mate and he said he bought it second hand off someone else so that side of the story ends right there.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Brake mounts say its built for 700c not 26 inch. Maybe an early hybrid. Cool that it lugged though. Fork looks nice.

BRLVR.v2 is right - it's a Hybrid - Repco used to make a "cross trainer" or something (can't remember the exact name). Perfect for a CX conversion if you want to go that way. I figure it must have been an 18 month fad sometime around when the mountain bike revolution was going on.

CX bikes in those days used to be whatever you had in the shed - dedicated CX frames are a relatively recent phenomenon as the racers used to convert touring frames.

Looks vey similar to the first mtb that i ever owned. It was a Europa with pretty much the same forks/frame. Mine was definitely 26", and i'm pretty sure the fork was drilled too though.

Single speed it, with a coaster brake and knobbly tyres. And a flat cap. All the cool kids are doing it. I'm told.

I have the Exact same build but 26" same green, no purple. My bars are one peice, BIG hooks not extensions fugly as.

On the subject of the Europa, I got my son a mid 90's Repco MTB, it was identical except for the 700c wheels, the mtb had 26" wheels.

I'd take Vaeske but I have an old mongoose coming for the 'foreshore' rides with the missus. I needed something a bit slower as she gets cranky when I free wheel past her on one of my roadies

I belive Hybrids were known as "cross bikes" back when they first appeared . My 1996 Shogun Metro AT sports "Outer butted Templite CROSS Tubing" Which from observation is a tubeset so heavy weight it will survive the Apocolypse!

My old Giant Innova was marketed as a cross bike, even labeled that on the decals and would make a great CX build. The Innova name is still used on there current hybrids

right so the europa is a lot smaller than what i'm riding and measures 55cm effective/53cm actual tt and 48st for reference.

not really suited for drop bars then. that's kinda standard geo for a mtb, so i'd think of it as a 17" or 18" 29'er
