CBC - Custom Built Cycles - any info?

Postby jools » Sat Apr 20, 2013 6:01 pm

I've acquired a CBC which is in ok condition but it's too small for me and so I will probably move it on. I'm not familiar with the brand though so I was wondering if anyone had any background info? The bike is not especially light and the components are all steel but its not too bad to ride.

The shifters and RD are Suntour, FD is Shimano, crankset is Sugino:

Were CBC a reasonable brand? Is it worth putting much effort into it or am I better off just giving it a quick clean and try to sell it as is?

I vaguely remember them from the early 80's - department store grade? Hi tensile frame - probably 1020. As you could guess from all the steel, nothing special. Looks like the original tyres!

I picked up a step through 'Custom Built' in hard rubbish once upon a time, I grabbed it for the Dia Compe brakes as I didn't have tools with me. It was better than department store grade in components, but not by a lot. I agree, move it along.
Gee, I've never seen "Sugino" cranks like that before.

Thanks for that - I couldn't find much info anywhere on CBC. The components are an interesting mix. Your comment about the Sugino cranks got me a bit paranoid but google came to the rescue and I found some images of similar cranksets so I think its all ok. It's up on ebay now so hopefully it will go to a good home and someone can make the most of it.

Were quite common when I went to school.

Basically an entry level bike at the local bike shop, I don't think you could get them at Kmart etal but of similar quality.
