Further to the subject of Osgear type derailleurs did anyone see this auction? Ebay no: 140238550298
Go look.... US $306 for a fairly scruffy example of a Super Champion. Is there something speciial about this I am missing or did two snipers just overbid themselves?

Maybe I need to fit bigger padlocks!

There seems to be a few out there on Ebay of the "I have to have it at any cost" variety , some common stuff has gone for stupid prices recently, some damaged things as well, odd, but its their money............. :D

While the pricing might seem insane, this damaged & incomplete derailleur includes the rare pre-war tension arm.

I looked for something like 12 years before I was able to secure mine & I was ultra lucky that it was new.
This version of the tension arm was made from late 1935 untill 1940 when the Germans interupted production when they rudely turned up uninvited.

As far as the rest of it is concerned, the brass knob-ended control is also pre war but I don't know about the striking fork assembly.
I have one of these but can not guarantee that it is actually an Osgear part, possibly being from one of the copy types.

So what was it worth? Well, if you have a bike that you have spent years restoring & gathering parts for, & this was one of the last pieces needed to complete an authentic restoration, how much would you pay?

Now that's AUSTRALIAN to the core.

Why wouldn't you buy it? A SRAM Red or Record rear derailleur is much the same price - admittedly they're new, but you can just go in to a shop and buy one of them.

That Osgear type derailleur seems cheap compared to this BMX pad set on US Ebay.

(A bmx mate sent me this link)

Please note this is for a REPRODUCTION pad set

For those unable to link to the auction page, this is the reproduction padset in question.
eBay link

It went for 511 GBP or approx. $1,062 Aus. [Cough, gag choke]
I wouldn't mind an original padset for one of my Quicksilvers, but that kind of money for a replica padset is INSANE.
