Stunning. If you were in an inner urban capital city environment, you would have the $5K carbon brigade slump their shoulders in envy; knowing the game was up. :D
Well, no, it's not a pushbike, otherwise I'd be pushing it...

I'm consious of going over the top with the white coloured parts so white hoods are by no means a shoe in but white cabling is the plan.

I have a pair of FMB CX competition tubulars on order. These have a very pale gumwall finish with usual black centre tread section and should look truly stunning on high polish trad. wheels. The FMB tyres with pale sidewalls is a concept I have lifted 100% from my online acquantance..............the white tyres I can have when I'm not having white tyres.............

I like the match with the frame

Hi open roader,
I have ever only owned 4 bikes in my life, the first I got from a tip at age 8 I would say, It was a fixed wheel and had no tyres, but it was a perfect fit.....

The second was a healing with the works and probably the first light with a speedo in it, Pop said if I saved half he would supply the other half and he bought it for me, It cost 44 quid and was a semi racer, I was just coming back from a car accident and was getting over a broken leg. Pop was earning nineteen quid a week in those days.

At 65 years of age I was lucky enough to get a huffy, and now a few years late, have a World Rondonneur which surpasses everything that came before.

But I must say your bike is a thing of beauty all right. And it shows a great spirit in the bloke that is building it. It sure reminds me of the days when I laid eyes on that brand new Healing.... :D

Good tyre choice, The fmb are meant to be great.
I think the black hoods are a nice subtle touch and will look great.

A slight variation to the plan....

The FMB Competition CX tyres I ordered were mistakenly switched for a pair of Paris Roubaix 25mm tubs........ which was actually my initial choice for this build, but I was unsure as to clearance with the frame so I ordered CX's instead being a narrower tyre.

As it turns out, there is plenty of room in the rear of the frame and enough room in the fork to accommodate these big tubs- so this particular cloud has a silver lining....... The sidewalls are a very natural off white/bone colour which is exactly what I was hoping for. This antique white side wall look is a major concept I had in mind to achive a truly clean and bright look to this build........... :D

I mounted the tyres on the old (and non polished) track wheels I use to stretch the tyres and fitted the wheels onto the frame............

A sneak peak of how these FMB tubs look against the frame......

Black hoods, white tape to balance all that white. Black saddle, too.

This is where individual tastes and perceptions can vary slightly or dramatically.

I veto a black saddle, even though to some black saddle may make a lot of cosmetic sense. A white saddle and white bar tape finish were primary concepts of this build before I even landed the frame. I wanted a frame that would work with bright/white contact points.

White hoods may well be one step too far for my taste for all things bright and shiny, however, I have some on the way just to see if that look really takes my fancy......... my hunch is that black hoods will remain...... but never say never....... :P

A hint of the finished item........

I'll be the first to say this is no genuine retro bike build, I probably wouldn't know genuine retro if I fell over it, however, I'm doing my best to ensure that from standing a few yards back the bike appears retro in form and components are aesthetically sympathetic to actual period correct components.

I think you're entitled to build your bike in whichever way you see fit. Keep sharing - I'm enjoying it, despite the detritus.

The bike may not be retro by the calendar but the style and build up is, good enough for me. Every time I see a Master X I gain some weight.

White hood / black hood comparo.

I do not like the dual tone look of the white hoods with black lever pivots - FAIL......... when combined with white bar tape and white cables the white hoods are one toom any white items in the cockpit area and I am not prepared to compromise on white bar tape or white cables........ :D

Black hoods it will be.

Link no worky.
Its a personal thing but i guess the main reason i went black is it is a nice contrast and they always look clean.
But Either way it looks good.

Here is one of my Tommasini's with black hoods, It now has Cinelli Giro bars and white leather Regal and white leather tape.

Good choice on the bar change Dayne. Ergo bars just don't look right on steel bikes.

Looking at this photo, I wouldn't want to put bar tape on the handle bars. Rather I would wear a good pair of gloves. And I'm not a fan of black hoods.

I agree that naked polished bars look great and have pondered not using tape on some of my builds. It's those pesky cables that make life difficult. Just taping the tops and ramps, leaving the hooks exposed, might look a bit odd.
