the plastic thing is superficial, just indicates how far to turn the thing to make it indexed or friction. I like it as is, wouldn't put fenders on it imo

Evening all, am looking for a little Infonation on a road bike I was given and stripped down. After looking at tonnes of photos, bit of wishing and disappointments i think i may have scored a Dodsun. Problem is, part from this thread there isn’t a real lot of info out there. Serial number i have is located right side just above the bottom bracket reads
D S 9 0
615555
Now there was a bit of info given but i need more !!
Any help be greatly appreciated and thanks all

All I could add (if this is an 80s frame) would be that this serial # should indicate an Oct 1989 frame build, but I've never discovered what the rest of the serial # indicated. In all likelihood will be a Tange tubeset, and I've always found Dodsuns to be very similar to equivalent Ricardo/Shogun etc and other similar frames of the era.Az58 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 16, 2020 9:09 pmEvening all, am looking for a little Infonation on a road bike I was given and stripped down. So yes, that serial # sequence would fit in with it possibly/probably being a Dodsun.
The serial # format also works with a couple of different North American market frames (Univega etc) but on an Aus frame, it's most likely a Dodsun. There was another serial format of four letters (DS??) and then year (single digit) month (two digits) and then production/batch number/sizing etc.. But yours is the more familiar DS then numbers.
Campagnolo for show, SunTour for go

Sweet thanks heaps 10speedsemiracer, gives me a little bit more to work with. It’s a shame there’s not a lot out there on this bike, but it’s just going to be a mystery ride.
Best part is, she’s a sweet ride. Past owners have given her a few decent parts so she rolls well.
Thanks again all, safe riding.
