Gutted. Newly acquired Vitus 979 Dural w. crash damage

Postby The 2nd Womble » Sat Sep 07, 2013 11:13 pm

I have found a Canadian company that supplies replacement top and down tubes ($100 each) for the repair, but I'm more than a little devo tonight. Is it worth repairing it or do I just chuck it out?

You can see the rippling on the underside of the downtube:

If it was me I'd fix it. Hang the expense, they don't make them any more.
So we get the leaders we deserve and we elect, we get the companies and the products that we ask for, right? And we have to ask for different things. – Paul Gilding
but really, that's rubbish. We get none of it because the choices are illusory.

It was bought for $20 at a metal recyclers and one of the guys rode one back in the day, so I was keen to get it and get out before the price skyrocketed.

$20 or a lot of teeth: which would you rather piss away?

Now what size? I might have one for you that's perfect & original that could be a better option that repair and sourcing tubes + postage from o/seas.

Throw it in the bin, hit up spirito for a new one.
Even if you do buy a new tube you will need glue and to dismantle the whole front triangle and re glue it all.
Do you really want that plus then who's to say it won't fall apart.

Joe Cosgrove in Brisbane does Vitus repairs. Apparently the glue goes off in a month, so the more he has the better.
He also has a frame jig.

Dave, I'd check it fits and is comfortable before you go and spend loads of coin having it repaired.

Safe to say it'll be neither a cheap, nor speedy, repair.

Trust me Dan, cost is numero uno factoro. I'm married to a book keeper. The one time I saw her drop change at the shops she bent down so quickly to pick it up it hit her in the back of the head. :?
