Advice on Speedwell 'Flash'

Hey all new poster here,

I just acquired (2 months ago) a fair condition speedwell. I have been riding it around for the past months after putting on some new tyres (the ones on there were original!!!) and have recently starting to investigate what type it actually is.

The decals that were on there suggested that it was resprayed at some point in the past and were re decaled, so I took some paint remover and cotton bud to the decals to see what was underneath the hood (don't criticise).

It turns out it was black originally (as well as being resprayed black) and says SPEEDWELL flash (in script writing) I was curious as to what year this bike would have been. I checked the bottom for the serial number and all it has is: a stamped 2858 and a raised 181 underneath that.

Hub is a three speed sturmey archer and brakes are labelled WEINMANN - TYPE 730 and gear stamped as EBW - AT 46.

Will post pictures tomorrow but would love to have some help on what kind of decals this bike would have had originally, what age it is, and what colours or other features it may have had that were distinct to all others. If anyone has one of these bikes I'd love to see some pictures of what they are supposed to look like too! :D

Regards

Jacob

Sturmey dates to 1955, gear to 1954 and I think it has a V (although may be a k? Very hard to read) above the serial number if this helps.

My first 'full-size' bike was a dark-green 'Flash' I got in 1968.
I loved that bike, until it snapped a front downtube in 1974.

Haven't seen one for many years, and sadly have no pics of mine.

The AT on the gears is Williams code for made in 1954.

I have a dark red 1961 Flash. Does yours have a chrome S badge riveted to the head tube?

Were the old tyres Dunlop Speed?

Yeah chrome S riveted on the head tube, it has the pump holder on the down tube not the seat tube too. Not sure about the tyres they were so worn out it was impossible to read anything off them at all. Pictures to come.
