Looking for info on a RIGA ? frame

Postby jimsheedy » Mon Nov 11, 2013 8:10 am

Trying to find any info on a frame. It's called a Riga, I think ive got the spelling right. Very interesting race frame, light columbus tubing. Two stays instead of a seat post. That allows the rear wheel to sit forward resulting in a pretty tight wheel base and possibly a very twitchy ride.

Anyone seen anything like this ?

That would be a Rigi.

Italian made, most prevalent in the early 80's. Ultra short wheelbases courtesy of the split small diameter twin seat tubes and 78 or 79 degree frame angles. Quite unique and certainly different to most other offerings at the time. Many lump them together with Flying Gate's and Hetchin's curly's as extreme but perhaps with doubtful merits in regard to the frames design. Not top quality finishes but not bad either. Not many seen these days, so somewhat rare but not really valuable. Careful as some of these require specific and very hard to source parts like a Gian Robert front derailleur specific to the small gauge seat tube. I'd pay $300-$500 if in good condition with paint & artwork intact. Ebay would probably fetch double that depending on the seller's ability to sell.

Sadly, here's one that belonged to one of our NZ brothers an was stolen

Thanks very much for the info. Thats it Rigi. Yeah I was wondering about the FD, glad you mentioned it. It's semi original paint. Looks like it's been sprayed over badly with a sort of geometric pattern stencil . No Stickers except for the columbus one. $800 includes record hubs laced to possibly ambrosia tubs. I was thinking $600 would be closer to the mark.
