Took most of a rainy day to make these two, dremel, then file, then buff.

May just be able to see I scribed in Hendee MFG an Springfeild Mass to and bottom.
Image Image

Also added a tail light from an old reflector I had and some plumbing pipe

Getting all arty on the computer.

That's the ten year old Boarder Collie "Fly" looking happy to have her picture taken.
Getting close but still a bit more to do, will convert her over to a boardtracker soon
and see how she looks.

So here she is as a boardtracker, not as comfortable a riding position for sure!

As the title first suggested she's a boardtracker first and foremost. So wanted a more
authentic looking boardtracker seat, cut from a skateboard deck.

Thought I'd get a few pic's of my Indians together, the lowest, the slowest and the boardtracker!

Okay so been off my bike projects for some time, lately been working
on filling the void under the tank, from the outset I was always going
to try to get this thing as close to the real thing as my ability would
allow, the third twist fake engine.

So I live pretty isolated and have to build my bikes from what I can beg,
borrow or pirate from here, there and everywhere, the bulk of this thing
is mainly from scrap plywood.

Image

The cylinder head is cut out of an old compressor head.
Image

More plywood for the oil tank and mangeto, the carbie an old torch and scrap plumbing
pipe or the intake manifold and exhaust.
Image

Bit more detail, pipes are old brake lines pulled off a wrecked car, the oil valve from
an old primus stove as is the oil tank filler.
Image

Oil pump from the same dismantled primes stove, the crank shaft is driven by the pedals.
Image

Now most of the mock up is now done, next, dismantle and paint!

Got the fake engine painted and fitted up, not 100% happy, the oil tank is too
silver and want to add more weathering to the crankcase, getting close.

Wasn’t happy with the engine’s paint job so pulled the whole thing apart
and redid her. Took her for a ride down to the lagoon and took some pic’s.

Today was the completion of a bit of a dream for me with this one. What I set out to
achieve, as close as possible replica of a 1914 Indian board track racer. To convert her
from traditional to broad tracker she gets different handle bars, fenders removed apart
from the cut down rear one and the smaller seat, ready to race!

While she is a bit nicer to ride in the traditional mode, I just love the stripped back look
of the board trackers, just something rough and raw about them. Imagine roaring around
an oval wooden track throttle wide open at 100mph, other bikes close by, the crowds, the
smell, the noise and the fear!

I'm getting the feeling that folks on Lord Howe Island can't put anything down for too long before it's turned into an Indian component or two.

Absolutely brilliant and I can't stop smiling - such a wonderful thread. I'll have to re-read it now.

You did a great job on your Indian replica. I built a 1920 Harley Replica to full scale 6 years ago. I'm in the process of drafting out a 1915 Indian Board Tracker V-twin as we speak.

As I was searching for the oil pump for the motor I'm drafting, the images that came up included your project. I had no choice but to join this site, and tell you what a fantastic job you did. lol, thought I was the only guy with such a passion for the old board track racers that I would go to the extreme to make my own, but I'm definitely not alone :D .

Cheers

Damn wish I had remembered about this thread when I was on Lord Howe earlier this year.

I was already impressed but having been there I now realise you can hardly run off to the nearest Bunnings or bike shop when you need something.

Great job and great place for some photos.
