I bought a Ken Evans frame today at the garbage tip. $25.

I will post some pics, serial number etc. later.

It will become the basis for a commuter/rando/gravel/light tourer build if I don't find any cracks or major faults.

Update: Just reading the Ken Evans website, I see that his bikes were built for racing.

Does anyone have experience of riding a Ken Evans on longer rides comfortably?

I'm thinking 28 or 30mm tyres to help the ride (if they fit the frame).

Great pick up, can't wait to see some pics. It will be fine on longer rides and should fit 28's comfortably, but will probably lack the necessary braze ons for panniers and the like if that's what you were thinking.

Yeah, it's going to depend on the fittings. Almost all Kenevans I've seen have been race frames, with no eyelets for guards or racks.

I heard back from Ken regarding my frame. It seems he doesn't keep records like the Bundy lads did (tubing, size ordered, who for, etc). He did say that he built a lot of frames to ship wholesale to shops throughout the country in the 70's and 80's. Still, happy with mine so far, will repaint it in the future and get it going.

Thanks for the replies everyone, especially QuangVuong. I followed the lead of it being a Geoff Scott, and yes it turned out to be one of his frames.

Stumbled across this article on Geoff Scott http://www.veloaficionado.com/blog/shoo ... me-builder and then digging into the history of his Instagram, seeing the similarities between this frame and two others (gussets, grub screw for the seatpost, holes in the lugs) I've made the educated guess that this is one of the prototypes he made for the early 1980s track championships and Olympics. The name Kenrick Tucker also popped up a few times, which is the same name I remember being told when I first acquired this frame

Being the impatient individual I am, with more for an eye for aesthetics than being period correct, this is the stickered up frame. Hopefully you like it as much as I do! I've emailed the man him self but I have yet to receive a reply.

I've added one of the BB to show the hole heavy lugwork which Scott seems to be a fan of. It is going to be eventually completed, but I thought I would share it as it stands right now.

I offered the same advice a few days ago.

That is beautiful....mid 80s?
Fairly sure you can no longer use the word collection in reference to your apparent fleet of bikes.

Perhaps, horde ?

(says I with an envious tone..)

With the 1051 group set probably late 80s.

... and yes, a collector that’s become a hoarder.

I’ve just realised that the remnants of a decal in the top tube indicates that this is a Mal McPherson built frame.

Sweeeet. What size is it? I seem to recall the Gumtree ad said 55 or 56, but it looks more like a 58 to me.

Yeah cool. You know, I reckon you've inadvertently answered a question for me. I asked Ken himself if he made many frames without 'K' panto's, and he told me only a few early ones. Yet there seems to be a steady stream of Kenevans badged bikes come up for sale without any panto's, and they can't all be re-badged. But after reading your discovery, I reckon they are probably examples built by Mal McPherson. Well, that's my theory anyway.

I think you’re right. Sounds like a perfectly good explanation to me.

I have just listed a Ken Evans gold frame track bike on Gumtree. It was bought second hand in Perth, about 18years ago and has lived at our holiday farm, in the shed, unused for the last 12 years. I have just found this Society, registered and jumped right in with this post, not really knowing what I am doing or how to go about it. Anyone interested in viewing the bike can do so in Fremantle in a week or so. Send me a private message with your mobile phone number so I can respond. (I can't actually send reply emails currently).
Oops, it is actually a ROAD BIKE.

Finally got a Ken Evans - albeit a bare frame. I've emailed Ken for some info and am waiting to hear back so I thought I'd also post here as well in the interim.

Can anyone shed some light (tubing, year etc.) with the following info:

- Cinelli bottom bracket
- Logo on seat stays
- Serial number 0219
- Campy dropouts
- Bare frame weighs in at 1650 - which is surprisingly light as its about 56cm square

Will try and get some pics up.

Thanks.

Hey everyone - I have a frame (well most of it) and due to moving house won't ever get to restore this beauty to its rightful glory - http://ebay.us/HZ9jdE?cmpnId=5338273189 check it out and someone please post pics once back on the road. So very sad to be letting this one go - but its been too long, and I have no time.

Interested but if it has been in an accident I would want to see a good profile pic of the Downtube/ Head junction

Best to post up sizing.
If drivers and riders spent more time worrying about their responsibilities than their rights then roads would be far safer.
