BSA Paratrooper WW2 Airborne

Postby healey100 » Wed Nov 05, 2014 9:42 pm

Hi all,

Here's a paratrooper I found recently in Adelaide . Quite a find and I think this warrants a thread on its own. From what I know, paintwork is not original, nor are the rims, pedals and seat. Tommy bar on the head stem is broken but the rest is just great.

Any paratrooper enthusiasts out there?

.... now considering selling my Malvern 5 star frame, its over at member to member bike sales

Looks like 1 of the 3 I sold from Mike Doube's collection. Interesting bike. Have you managed to lift it yet? ;-)

didn't you recognise the Malvern Star that also came from Mike Doube's collection?

That looks a great buy. Always wanted one of those, I missed my chance back in the 70's when they were fairly common in the army surplus stores in London. I did build a copy for someone (without the folding bits they are pretty basic) long long ago which ended up being used in some movies apparently. However a REAL one is the goods...

Thats a very unique bike.

Maybe Mr Abbott will be able to afford to give the soldiers a decent pay rise by parking motorised transport and bringing back pedal power... :)

Hi, Ive raised this old post of mine from the dead to give you all an update.
After being laid up since Nov 2014, I decided to restore this old thing. Given its house paint paintjob I guessed it wont be "its only original once"
As much as I hate repainting bicycles, its now got the correct Olive Drab Green and I fitted a cyclemotor just for a bit of fun.
Its about 95% done, just need the grips and few bits ,tweak a few things and then hopefully the motor kicks over. Ive also dated it from the serial number, made in 1943.

Tried to edit the above post but wont let me so apologies for bumping it up.
Motor started and ran well.
Also, the bike will be on display this Anzac Day just after the service at the RSL club Mitcham, Belair Road here in Adelaide for anyone who wants to come along for breakfast. All welcome.

Picked up a para Airborne bicycle up at a farm clearing sale on the weekend

Not sure how to submit photos, but I am looking for a few missing parts.
