Bike Week (NSW) launch at Central Station, Sat 16 Sept, 10am-2pm

Postby marc2131 » Thu Sep 07, 2017 8:28 am

As part of government agency, Transport for NSW's week long celebration of cycling in the state, they are holding the 2017 Bike Week.
As part of their launch, a vintage bicycle display will be held at Sydney's Central Station's Grand Concourse.

Various vintage bike collectors will be displaying their bicycles. Among items on display will include Penny Farthings, replica 1880s tricycles, a genuine 'boneshaker' bicycle, and various bicycles from the 1960s, 70s and 80s. All up we are expecting about 15 vintage bicycles.

DATE: Sat 16 Sept (10am-12pm).
VENUE: Central Stations' Grand Concourse (next door to the Country Trains terminal).
Entry is free.

This event is organised by NSW gov agency, Transport for NSW, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GepjSk682sQ

I guess it makes sense. Their transport policies are pretty vintage.

Are you informing us of this event or looking for people to bring their bikes?

Will there be a blitz on bells and the like?

And why have this show on there when the facilities on board trains are so utterly poor compared to Europe. Over there, you get carriages that are intended for bicycles.

Good points guys.
The liaison person I am dealing with is obviously a bike fan himself. I am sure there are a few of these renegades in this government department. Life must be hard for them. I thought it would be good to support them which can maybe have a long term impact on the backward attitude of state govs towards cycling in general.
I asked them if they wanted me to 'invite' more people (ie, BNA forumers) over with their special bikes, but was told no. Apparently they are planning to host about 15 display bikes and space may be limited.
Saying that .... there is nothing stopping anyone from bringing their special bikes to view the display.
Regards
marc

well moderated answer Marc.
Someone making a genuine contribution to promote cycling to a non-traditional audience should be supported.
At such a high profile and highly trafficked site provides another validation of cycling.
Good work.
let me help you prepare your ebay advert, ask me how

Last Saturday's display was very well attended with a large number of interested onlookers taking photos and asking questions.
Best of all NSW gov department 'Transport for NSW' was most pleased with the outcome and plan to do a similar bike display next year.
We had bikes dating back to the 1830s right up to the 1980s.
