vintage saddles
Postby scott j » Fri Sep 15, 2017 10:24 am
My father (the original owner) informed me that the original was a wide comfortable "perch" but that may have been when he had a posterior of good quality which has since dilapidated similar to the bike.
All photos or links much appreciated

If you look around, they can be found with a patina finish which will make it a more appropriate aged look. Else the Honey colour ages very well.

A roadster may have had a different saddle to a racer.
Two stars covered a variety of uses, have a look at this advert from 1948
A roadster may have had a mattress saddle.
A look through the newspaper adverts identifies there was no detail about components. This may have been the result of post-war shortages and not knowing if you would be able to get sufficient stocks of components.
This is noted in the 1950 Brooks catalogue where they had a limited range.
Robert's example is very nice as it has the period correct oval badging.
Unless it has been well treated, a saddle of that age may well be best reserved for display purposes.

He still curses those rainy days with the tire to guard getting chocked up with mud.
Hopefully admin can post a couple of my photos to show you the bike with your ideas for a saddle gratefully accepted.

This site doesn't have any image hosting, so you have to upload them to a 3rd party hosting site (google photos, imgur, flickr etc) and post a link here. Actually you can embed them in your post (so that they are immediately visible) or you can just post a link. Embedding is better, but just posting a link is sometimes easier if you're not so familiar with the usage of the forums.
