I'm after a pair of black leather road shoes size 43 in good condition that can take SPD-SL/ Look pedals. Ideally I'd like to try them on first. Would be very interested in some Maressi or Detto Pietro or Adidas shoes (or even more modern designs) to complement a mid-80's racer with modern pedals. Cheers
Still interested in shoes members may want to sell to a good home. Dan's link, however, was very interesting - that company didn't come up on my radar at all. Does anyone in Melbourne stock/have the 3 in 1 shoe as it hard to assess by the web alone. Further does anyone know what the fixing is like for a SPD-SL cleats as although I can see holes in the picture I can't see a nut to bolt in the cleats? Happy to receive this info or any other proposals by PM...
My old man has a pair of Detto's however the fixings in those are only for slotted 1 hole cleats.
I have heard good things about the SSBD shoes, and have seen a pair in person - however the wearer had them fitted with slotted cleats too.
I believe Vittoria? may have done an old style shoe which takes modern cleats.
Bonjour: From the SSBD website about the 3 in 1: Compatible with "look" pedal system, toe clips and magnetic pedals.
Also, not to thread jack, but if anyone has the old school 1 cleat shoes in a 44 or 45, i'm after some. PM me if you have any.
Standard spd 2 bolt mount on the mtb soled version, with spd not an option for the 3 in 1. Spd-sl will go straight on.
Birdy tells me there will be a tourer style spd sole available later this year. Alternative in the meantime would be an adapter plate to fit spd cleats to the 3 in 1, but the walkability that was likely the reason for choosing spd to begin with would be lost.
Magnetic pedals for commuting are a pretty rad idea, though!
I noticed a pair of most cougar shoes on local op shop the other day size 44.
Full carbon sole. Pretty well used but still plenty of life.
Otherwise check out fizik shoes...if they fit they are great shoes ... Elegant modern shoes
I have a pair of Adidas Forscos (hardly used that didn't fit me)
- kangaroo leather
- carbon re-enforced sole
- with Look cleats
- size 10.5US
- light silver & carbon colour however

Dan - I contacted the rep who confirmed the SPD-SL and clarified some other matters with those shoes. Still would like to see/handle a pair before I order.
Lloyd's shoes are likely to be too big - I've PM'd him and if others are interested in them I'm sure you could PM him.
The collective help has been brilliant, thanks. I'm still on the hunt ...
Help was brilliant but the hunt's over - although very tempted by the Aussie option I sourced some Dettos from O/S. FWIW a friend is selling some sensational Dromarti's in size 44 on Gumtree.
