G'day

Is it Australian certified?

Which means it works, but it not technically legal to use in Australia. That wouldn't stop me from buying it, but for those of you who are racing, this helmet can't be used in those events.

Cheers,
Graeme

You could argue that EN1078 is equivelant to AS/NZS 2063. The helmets all come from the same factory.

NEW SOUTH WALES CYCLING FEDERATION - TECHNICAL REGULATIONS
Section
51 - HELMETS
i. When propelling a bicycle an approved hard shell helmet complying with Australian Standards (or its equivalent) must be worn at all times, during competition, warming up for an event or when riding on the road at a race meeting. (see by- law 132 a.)

and from
http://www.act.cycling.org.au/site/Cycl ... elmets.pdf

An exemption may be sought for UCI calendar events where international and pro-contract riders
wearing helmets approved in other countries, may be worn. The helmet standards recognised by
the UCI include EN1078 (Europe), ANSI and SNELL (USA).

So check with you local clubs - either way the helmet is nearly half price & new

And
http://www.mtba.asn.au/cms/uploads/poli ... uide06.pdf

Helmet compliance is as noted in the policy on helmet standards compliance acceptance
issued by MTBA from time to time. At the time of printing the list is:
• AS/NZ 2063
• ANSI Z90.4;
• Snell "B" or "N" series;
• ASTM F-1447.
• Canadian CAN/CSA-D113.2-M;
• U.S. CPSC standard for bicycle helmets;
• European CEN standard for bicycle helmets (EN1078)

and for MTB riders:-
http://www.mtbnationals.com.au/events/Rules.asp

Equipment Requirements

Every participant must wear a hard shell bicycle helmet that is fitted correctly and satisfies the current Australian Standard or equivalent during both racing. Helmets must be worn during official practice as well as during competition. All helmets must have a visible compliance sticker affixed to the helmet.

G'day

On the road the helmet has to comply with Australian Road Rules. The exemption referred to above in respect to road races only applies to overseas riders and even then some sort of exemption from Australian law would need to apply (Clubs are not above the law in this country last time I checked, so irrespective of their rules, the law still applies).

At the end of the day as Kalgrm indicates it is a personal decision but at least potential purchasers are now informed.

I was being subtle, not practical.

Same helmet, once the sticker's "fallen out" who's going to say it's not one sent to Aus?
Please pardon my ignorableness

Rule seems pretty simple. No sticker, no race. Those things dont "fall out". Ever. Two years of sweating in my helmet and the sticker is still very firmly attached.

Yep.

Anyway it is the buyers choice ... caveat emptor applies well and truly here.

I think that whilst most of the test would be the same/similar, the key difference with the AS is that the same helmet uis used for all of the tests, whereas the US Snell std can use a new helmet for each test.

No idea if the CE std has the same rules.

Good luck with the sale. No AS sticker wouldn't stop me from buying it as I don't race. :D

I bought the same helmet of Ribble for $102 two weeks ago.

That doesn't come with an AS/NZS sticker either.

If it isn't in there then it probably wasn't sold new in Australia or NZ
